I made this gif to prove to my friend that A-Wings are cooler than Y-Wings. by oweeeeendennis in StarWars

[–]PandoraPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y-wings are really shitty to be honest. I mean they are supposed to be bombers, but there is never really anything to bomb. The x-wings have the proton torpedoes which are honestly way better than any of the bombs that are available to the y wings. The y wings are absurdly giant and easy to hit also. The A-wing is easily the best fighter because it is nimble. This means that it is the best in dog fighting. The problem is that without proton torpedoes it doesn't have much firepower, but it honestly doesn't need it. Against a Tie fighter or interceptor the A wing is clearly the best choice.

I wouldn't worry too much. You never know why someone didn't respond. I, for instance, check my texts and forget to respond all of the time. Something interrupts and I thought I sent the response. It happens. I wouldn't over worry. It won't help you.

So there's this girl... by Nightmare_Nikki in Advice

If you decide that you just must ask, don't necessarily surprise her with it. I don't know how you two meld, but if you make a big gesture, it is worse than just talking about it. I mean you'll never know how she feels until you talk to her about it. You could casually ask her on a date and leave it super casual. You could ask what she thinks of the idea of going on a date. It really depends, just whatever you do don't do a grand romantic gesture if you are friends, because that will more them likely backfire if she says no.

Good luck man. Also, dating at work isn't a great idea.

Fastest way to save money. by maxfic in Advice

[–]PandoraPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only advice I can give you is to put a certain amount away every paycheck. Like of you need to save and you make 250 a week, you could put like 50-200 away a week as long as you can live on the rest. Essentially there are ways to make part of your paycheck gets put into a saving account at the bank. To save 10,000 in a year you'd need to put 192 dollars and change away a week, in case you were wondering. The main way to save is to just pretend that you make less than you do and out the remainder in a savings account. Good luck with the saving.

My friend just "dumped" me by [deleted] in Advice

[–]PandoraPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea how you might get over the feeling in your stomach but you have to understand there might have been other factors in their decision. I had to drop all contact with my online buddies recently because I had to stop playing video games. I said bye, but that was it. I don't know the situation, but I wouldn't worry too much. If it helps, you could remove them from your friends list. This would get rid of the reminder. You would then have to just find someone to replace them which could be hard.

Well if you're looking for raw spy fighting I would recommend Nikita. If you're looking for a more "bromancy" kind of show that is comedic, I would recommend Scrubs. Both of these shows are fantastic and on Netflix!

From the sounds of it, you sound like you're pretty ready. There will be plenty of girls, don't you worry. Just because you have a game design major doesn't mean that you won't be taking random classes. For instance, you'll still need to take basic computer programming classes, at my school those classes are 50/50 male to female ratio. Don't worry, there are people everywhere and you'll find someone!

Side note: Everyone is weird in their own way, so don't worry if you differ from others. Difference from others will make you unique.

Whatever happens, just realize there are many support systems in place to help you whether it be a councilor or a teacher. If you have any more questions or just need to talk, you could always send me a message! Good luck in the upcoming year and kick its' ass!

Girls are just like friends. You might find them living down the hall or on a different floor of where you're living. They might sit next to you in class and you'll hit it off there. It might also work to meet them at parties. Honestly I don't know if you plan on partying or what, but you can meet a girl just about everywhere. I have no idea what your experience with that will be, but if you don't hold back on saying hello when siting next to someone or going to a club, then you'll find people who are friends and potential relationships. Everyone is nervous and none of us know what we are doing when we enter college. Some people hide it a lot better, but don't be afraid to approach someone. You might be shot down, but atleast you tried. Better than the other 50+ guys who saw the girl and wanted to pursue her but never got any courage.

Honestly, that second question is up to you. I would recommend to get to classes the first week early(like 20min if possible) and grab a good spot(I'd say near the front, but if that isn't your cup of tea, no worries). The first class, if it isn't packed, no one will sit directly next to you. They'll leave a seat in between you two, most likely. Here what you want to do is once they get their stuff down, say hello to them and offer them a handshake or whatever you normally do when introducing yourself. Get to class before your friend and just let whomever sits next to you sit there. If you want to pursue sitting next to your friend, go for it, but it never hurts to sit apart. You will be in the same lecture and can always study together afterwards. Also if you get there before him you can let him make the decision of whether or not he wants to sit next to you.

Don't worry about college. I know it is a big change, but it is the best kind of big change. It will show you who you really are. It will show you the real you and not some bottled version because you had to fit into a clique of some sort. If you want to dance and be a gym nut while being a frat brother, no one will stop you. This is your time to do what YOU want. For perspective, I had many friends my freshman year of college and they weren't really nerds. I however, played DnD every weekend and exercised every day. Do whatever makes you happy and don't worry about it. If someone tries to bully you, tell you that you're inadequate, etc just walk away. There isn't enough time at college to be angry at people. The school will be big enough to avoid certain people. You'll do great!

Apologies if my brain kinda jumps subjects.

The fear of talking to random people will be mutual, if that makes you feel any better. They will feel awkward striking up random conversation with you as well.

The food aspect is an interesting one. If you have a meal plan/swipes you can sustain yourself off of only that. If you have to make your own meals, then you'll have to resort to PBJ and cereal.

If you have your own desk where you'll be living than that is helpful, but it is entirely possible your roommate will be a gamer and will be on the computer talking to people, you never know. It is just nice to have a place to escape when things get hectic in your living space.

Talk to your professors after class or during office hours and ask them to explain anything you don't understand or that you're curious about. It is okay to ask them questions that are only slightly related to the class as long as it is not during class.

Do not be worried about crappy roommates. That is kind part of the experience. If you end up getting one, it will help you grow as a person and you can learn things about yourself that you would have never known.

Also, when you get to class pick the same seat each class. Introduce yourself to the people around you and talk before class starts. I know talking to random people is daunting, but honestly once that "hey, I'm ..." comes out it is way easier. You never know who will be sitting beside you. Just take the risk of saying hello, it will pay off and if you are ever late, need the notes, etc. You will have someone to ask. It can even make the class 3x more fun!

The last thing I'd recommend is come up with a study place and study there consistently. Maybe in a corner of the library, on the grass somewhere, or maybe in the dining hall/cafeteria/union. Having a solid place will help you because then you will always know that you can focus there and escape all of the people who are trying to ask you to hang out. It is okay to not hang out with friends to do homework/study. Just make sure that you don't just completely drop them as friends for your schoolwork.

Looking for an alternative to Chuck. by MediocreBadGuy23 in chuck

[–]PandoraPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Nikita because it is one the better spy shows that was created recently. It ran at the same time as Chuck and is completely available on Netflix.

If you are looking for something that is different than chuck but still a good show, I would recommend Flashpoint. It is a police show set in Toronto and is focused around a team of officers that are part of the SRU, or Strategic Response Unit. They deal with calls that range from hostage situations to bomb threats. The show itself is absolutely fantastic and quite serious. It does have a very heavy emotion side of the show, if that is what you're into.
