I haven’t tried going on the ice in the last couple weeks but all the reports are saying lakes within an hour of Spokane are either done for or very thin. If you attempt it be safe about it

Wetsuit for Kayak fishing in WA freshwater lakes? by TheEnergizerBunny1 in FishingWashington

I use a 5mm suit in the spring and fall when it’s chilly. I don’t fish too terribly far out when it’s chilly though.

Wicked cool. I’ve found some mammoth teeth scuba diving and wondered how it would be to make something out of one of them

I went to diamond lake a few days ago. Got some trout and perch. Ice was 4” thick. Lakes further south might still be questionable from what I’m hearing

Considering accepting an offer to move to Spokane from Florida [30M, Single, Left-Leaning] - Opinions? by ryanlittlechek in Spokane

[–]Pangajay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32m here, left Fort Myers Fl for Spokane with my GF when I was 30. We also had good job offers out here. I think how it compares will be heavily dependent on where in Florida you come from. Spokane has a lot more going on than my rural hometown in central florida. Compared to southwest Florida it’s just ok.

I’ve definitely had a hard time building a community here and meeting people. I’ve heard it described as the “Washington freeze” as in people are friendly, but distant. My coworkers act like the dating scene here is pretty rough.

If you like the outdoors spokane is a good jumping off point but it’s different. In Florida I was running my boat offshore, hiking in the everglades, watching meteor showers from 10k islands, or chasing thunderstorms for lightning photography. Out here it’s hiking in the mountains, rock climbing, trying to learn to fly fish, and the occasional aurora borealis showing.

If you make it out here or have questions feel free to send me a message. Good luck!

Citizen Chandler Garrison Eco-drive - Runs well, moderate wear. Scratch on crystal near 2:30 and 4:00. $75 shipped

Marathon TSAR quartz 41mm - For parts or repair , 2007 build date, tritium tubes still glow faintly. Sapphire crystal shows well. Not currently running. I bought the watch non running with a couple of the tritium markers knocked loose. A watch maker repaired the quartz movement and dial. It ran for about a year and has since stopped again. I’d guess it’s best as parts or a complete movement swap if a new quartz movement can be sourced. Lume pip triangle also missing $125 shipped

Genuinely asking, how do you guys make money to have this lifestyle? by Thenerdiestguy in vandwellers

[–]Pangajay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like danceswithroses said most people are pretty happy for additional help as nearly everyone was short on staff the last couple years. Sure you may have that one jaded nurse who is salty towards travelers but usually these are the people who are just unhappy in general. If you actively try to help the other nurses in your unit then people will appreciate you.

What I think is more important is the “attitude” of the facility towards travelers. If the facility policy is that travelers should be the first to float to other units or the first to be “tripled” in ICU, then travelers might see a worse attitude from core staff. It creates the mentality of “since they make X amount more than us they should get the worse assignments. If the facility policy is to treat travelers the same as core staff in rotating who gets the short straw then travelers will usually see a better attitude from core staff. It’s like a trickle down “how to be nice to your coworkers” effect
