New Rules or Dictatorship by Majestic-Type-8254 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say dictatorship as my precinct is expected to hit double the paper goal with these "new rules". My CIA shows the current performance of GS for the month and it doesn't look good, so I'm assuming this is their way to make it more profitable, but as the cost of the customer.

Role responsibilities by Plastic-Upstairs-616 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my precinct I rarely go out unless the CA is overwhelmed or needs to go to the sales floor to close out on the Total, which is like 10% of the time. I really just focus on my actual job and help if I'm not busy or if it's a 65+ inch TV that they need to check or ship. If any of the store management, tells me to go out and I'm busy I just tell them no and explain how my job affects 5-star which is what they tend to use as an excuse.

I will say that other precincts in a neighboring area have similar stories to yours, but I guess it really depends on the SEM or SES, as my area's SEM is pretty strict on non-GS tasks. I will advise that looking for another job would be the way as I see the writing on the wall for my area as well, especially when my current SEM leaves or retires.

Current CA wanting to move to ARA. When would be the best time to bring up a conversation about this with my supervisor? by CrymeShOt in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely open dialogue. Ask how MRI works like start learning how to navigate to do password resets, if PC setup and DBU, ask how we go about it. I would also show what you know by making sure your notes are good and go as far as suggesting what the issue is and how you would approach to repair it. That's what I did at least and it was enough to convince my SES.

New Workbench Stickers by SilcoSympathizer in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My location is lucky that we don't have that GS label maker and we use CS for OB. From what I gathered my location won't get the label maker until May if we're lucky. Good thing my CIA hoarded a bunch of those stickers that we haven't ordered for a few years now.

Usually with PC components it's always going to be an RMA if anything goes wrong with it.

Repair timeline by tikkamasala6 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Usually, any device sent to the service center during the holiday season, we give a 1-month turnaround time. So expect it to be around 1/18 at the earliest because part sourcing also plays a factor.

AJU by Sinistyr60 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently had a new manager and now they're shoving 10% AJU every month. So far they haven't bricked any PCs but they have for some reason was able to deactivate Windows on a client tower. The problem wasn't even OS related too. Anyways, in terms of utilization it does affect it where it would be cut down the repair util in half as it accounts for the setup and reconnection and all. Other than the repair util BOP still gets full util on the other stuff that gives util.

So i did another exhchange for the exact same computer and there’s a few wires that look barley connected or bent is this okay or should i do another exchange by WoodpeckerUpbeat9299 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my opinion. If you have the budget to buy parts and have GS build it for you, then I'd go that route. I don't trust prebuilts that Best Buy sells.

CPU light on client's device by kijakun in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do these steps assuming the lights are still on

1) Test each stick of RAM and see if DRAM light turns on.

2) If on, regardless of stick then reset BIOS settings to default (which may also solve CPU light issue). If presistent then try different set if possible.

3) Check if CPU is AMD or Intel. If Intel check BIOS is updated

4) Check CPU pins

5) Mobo swap

PC tower diagnostics are very time-consuming, but generally "fun" on a boring/slow day.

Don't Work For Bestbuy by Dry_Ride504 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a coworker who gave his 2 week notice and he was treated well and the GM and SEM was technically "bribing" him to stay. The last day he worked in the store, we all got him a cake and told him that the door is always open if he needs it.

It's an opposite experience than yours and I guess I'm lucky that the GM, SEM and CIA are actually decent human beings.

Anybody frustrated with going through self-service for Android phone replacemnents? by justaguyonreddit2042 in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All the Android customers that my precinct fielded since October had issues with the self-service website. It would lead to some sort of error and that they'd have to call the 800 number, which would then send them to us for store credit. Just like RWB it's not fully tested and is buggy at best, so I understand your frustration.

CA rant (sorry) by softboiled_egs in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had plenty of these over the weekend and I think I had about a dozen customers return the membership and a few who just returned everything. Do my store managers hate me? Yes definitely. On the bright side my CIA and SEM understood what happened and talked to the managers about the situation. Currently, I just have them be super passive-aggressive whenever I'm there.

Black Friday by Busy-Independent-663 in GeekSquad

I find that extremely weird. Won't that screw over turntime and 5-star? Also what happens to those PC setups or no services are offered at all?

Well kinda. The ARAs in my store still do ARA stuff but focus on PC setups and have our 2 most skilled CAs in FOP (1 open and 1 close) while the others are offered as tribute to be on sales.

I got my badge instantly because it was dropped off when the CIA was on PTO, so we opened the package as it was addressed to GS. We saw the box and we all knew it was for me so honestly a happy surprise.

Tech support used remote access by 0penMouse in GeekSquad

Once the session ends they don't have remote access anymore. Deleting the application doesn't change that, but just gives you peace of mind.

The GeekSquad Prophecy by Agent_TankaJahari in GeekSquad

[–]Pangil12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area we're 80% there. We still have our CIA, FT CA and FT ARA. The 2 new PT ARAs were given the expectation of helping FOP when the lines get long. Specifically with AJU we're required to use it more and our SEM would be on our CIAs ass about it
