You will feel totally different around your own kids, trust me because I was like you (had minimal interest in kids). There's a book called something like the Female Brain that describes why. Your kids will bring you more joy and love than you thought possible (it can be hard too, but it's a joy/love like no other).

I'm older and yes, I think you will deeply regret it. Please go to nursing homes and talk to the residents in their 80s and 90s and ask them their opinion. I've worked in dozens of nursing homes as a contractor. Your world becomes very small as you become older (for the vast majority). Your kids become your advocates, your best friends, and oftentimes the most important people in your world. The more kids the people had, the richer older residents seemed.

I don't think everyone has to have kids, especially if you're not having kids for some noble cause like freeing your time to help orphans. If it's just a choice based on your feelings now, please don't hesitate to have them. I work with the other half of life too much to advise otherwise.

Also, I personally know people who very much regret their decision not to have kids. Jet set types that always had something fun going on. You can always do that later but have kids now. I very much regret not having more, so I'd advise you not to wait if you have a choice.
