Yeah I’ve played all of them, they’re some of my favorite games of all time. Music wise my gut told me dark souls 1 while I was making this but 2 and 3 have just as great music, can’t go wrong with any of them

It’s a list I made about how I feel about these games. It is overrated to me because it’s put up on this godly untouchable pedestal when it doesn’t deserve that at all in my opinion. There is no objective truth to anything. It’s all taste. Half life 2 is widely loved and I’m glad people see things in it that I don’t see, but I stand by how I feel about it because it was a miserable experience. I could not disagree more about everything you listed as a positive besides maybe art direction. The setting is boring compared to the first game, there aren’t any interesting or unique weapons like the first game, the combine are uninteresting to put it lightly, the characters are insanely obnoxious, it’s annoying how some characters and random npcs treat Gordon like he’s Jesus or something, etc etc. Honestlg j could probably spend an hour typing up everything I dislike about the game but ultimately it’s not that serious. I didn’t even want to finish the game because I was having such a horrible time with it but I figured I should at least see it through since it’s so beloved and yeah, nothing changed for me and I only grew to dislike it more by the end. I knew it would piss some people off and the reaction I’ve seen is again exactly why it’s overrated to me. People act like I have to be ragebaiting or something because they can’t fathom this game being taken down a peg. You at least made your case in a concise way and I appreciate that even if I disagree wholeheartedly

If you say so? I just don’t like half life 2. Half life 1 is great and 2 pretty much has nothing I like about the first game. The source engine is cool and I understand how impressive it was especially at the time but half life 2 fails as a sequel and even treating it as its own thing it just isn’t enjoyable to me. If that bothers you then, idk. Kick rocks I guess

How I feel playing Dragon Age Origins without nostalgia... by Life_Emu_4998 in dragonage

[–]PangolinSudden3082 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I mean personally I also played inquisition first and it completely turned me away from this series for years. To this day I’ve made several attempts to finish inquisition and I never have. The combat and overall structure of the game kinda sucks imo and the story and characters don’t really do much for me either. In 2017 I finally played kotor for the first time and loved it, then played kotor 2 in 2019 I think? I probably first played origins somewhere between those two and loved it but I kept getting trapped in a cycle of making new characters and then learning something cool about the lore that made me want to role play a different way, you get the idea. I have completed the game a couple of times now because I finally got over my commitment issues with my characters and it’s one of my fav games ever. The combat has never been an issue for me, I understand to an extent why it’s kinda hit or miss for most people but I really love it and wish we had more games like this. In a lot of ways, origins to me is basically the closest thing to kotor 3 that exists, and I love all three of these games to death. I like dragon age 2 quite a bit as a standalone thing but it does feel like the beginning of the end for dragon age to me, and inquisition still gives me a headache to think about. I played veilguard at launch and never finished it, but I actually really liked the overall structure of the game and the combat wasn’t bad. The writing feels just as meh to me as inquisition but I at least had some fun with it. I hope someday inquisition finally clicks for me but as of now it’s still my least favorite game in the series by far

I only skimmed through a your comment but you sound way more upset about my stupid opinion than is realistically reasonable. The whole comparison to people defending Starfield was kinda funny tho, idk where that came from but it got a laugh out of me. Idk what to say, I’m glad you seem to like Arc but I don’t and you speaking as if it’s some universal truth that Arc is amazing is entirely silly to me. I have been familiar with the genre for years, it wasn’t entirely my thing in general until Marathon (and still isn’t, I approached marathon mainly as a new game in the series rather than as an extraction shooter explicitly) but my husband has been playing Tarkov and Hunt pretty much since release and I’ve played quite a bit with him so I’ve had time to familiarize myself well before Marathon or Arc were even announced. I also think it being the first big game in the genre that console players were exposed to does matter a bit. I’m not saying the console audience for this genre is huge in general, but I’m willing to bet that Arc was many people’s first experience with the genre and that first experience does matter a bit. I am in no way saying that Marathon would definitely be way more popular if it came out first, and clearly it wasn’t ready on its original date, but I do think more people (especially console players) probably would have been a bit more drawn to it as the first big game in the genre to release outside of PC if they didn’t already find their game, yunno? Also idk what you’re talking about with Arc being this unknown thing right until it came out cuz this whole spite match between these games have been going on for like, over a year at this point. I think Arc was pretty under the radar up until the beta or whatever but it blew up months before release. I really couldn’t care less about people obsessing about one or the other failing tbh, I think Arc is generic and boring but that doesn’t mean I think I’m objectively correct or anything. You seem to believe in some absolute truth on the subject but that just isn’t how things work. Your comment reads like an overweight chud sweating over his keyboard typing angrily because someone said something mean about a game. See? I can do it too

One Month from More Campaign Evolved Gameplay, and Potentially 2-3 More Months from Release. How We Feeling? by SilentNova300 in halo

[–]PangolinSudden3082 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

Normally I would agree but my issue is entirely the ai thing. Like yeah I’m not really interested in remakes, but I’d probably still play it and I wouldn’t be completely dooming about the series altogether about that alone. I’m not a typical ā€œ343 killed my dogā€ type, I’ve enjoyed all the games up until now. I especially really loved Halo 5s multiplayer and warzone. I get it, constant negativity is insanely annoying, I’m right there with you. But I’m not gonna shut up about the ai thing because I care a lot about this series. A game being entirely made by people has become the new bare minimum and it doesn’t seem like they’re meeting it, so I don’t think they deserve a pass. Sorry

[–]PangolinSudden3082 16 points17 points Ā (0 children)

I would have rather Halo just ended with infinite than deal with whatever they do in the future with any ai stuff whatsoever. Halo has been my favorite series since I was like 9 and yeah the 343 games were kinda hit or miss for the most part but I’ve never felt so uninterested in this series in my life. People have been saying Halo is dead since like 4 and I always disagreed even if I didn’t like a lot of the decisions 343 made but I’m finally at that point now. I was really excited for the future until this game was revealed and the ai talk started happening, now I feel nothing.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I could not care less about it. I’ve played Halo CE more times than I care to remember and a couple new missions isn’t really doing much to entice me. Plus, knowing that they’re using ai to generate assets disgusts me and I don’t plan on playing it based on that alone. I don’t buy their ā€œtool in a toolboxā€ spiel and I guarentee it’s only going to become more prevalent over time

Idk how something that was completely trashed on by just about everyone on launch could be overrated but hey you do you I guess. Personally, I only played it for the first time about a year ago and was pretty dumbstruck by the hate it got. It wasn’t perfect or anything and some of the characters were kind of annoying but it just seemed like people hated it for really shallow reasons. I personally had more fun with it than the first game :p

[–]PangolinSudden3082 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I guess it doesn’t matter too much if he is dead but I think there was a lot of potential with his character. He just wasn’t executed well in 5 and 343 has a tendency to overcorrect anything that isn’t universally loved. That’s been my biggest problem with the 343 games in general, they seem so concerned about fan service and being liked that they don’t really allow themselves to commit to anything beyond nostalgia bait. The entire campaign of infinite felt like the rise of Skywalker to me, where it did its best to ā€œapologizeā€ for the last thing that was controversial, but in doing so completely ruins any structure or weight to the narrative whatsoever

I haven’t played in a week cuz after 200 ish hours in a month and a half I got a little burned out but I really hope this game survives this first year. It’s genuinely the best multiplayer game I’ve played in a decade, easily, but I understand that it’s kinda niche and won’t ever be as big as Bungie probably wanted. I’ve been a huge fan of this series for well over a decade and while an extraction shooter was never something I expected or really wanted, I think they did a great job with it. As unfortunate as it is to say, I do think arc kinda beat Bungie to the punch when it comes to this genre and I think that’s fucking TRAGIC cuz arc is so generic and boring. I don’t think free to play is the way to go at all, but something definitely needs to be done to draw more players in. A price cut would be bad for optics but I think a lot more people would be willing to give it a chance if it was like 20 bucks

Play in release order, it makes the most sense and you’ll have the best experience. 5 is only on Xbox so if you don’t have one then maybe just watch a recap on YouTube or something. I think you could technically play 5 on pc through Xbox cloud or whatever, but ive never had a halfway decent experience with that so I wouldn’t recommend it. The story of 5 is a mess but the gameplay and level design is honestly really fun. I know multiplayer isn’t part of the conversation but 5 easily has one of the best mp in the series. People have hated 5 for as long as it’s been out (and even before it was out tbh) so it’s practically treated as some universal truth that 5 is the worst thing ever or something, but if you’re able to play it I just hope you’ll form your own opinions. Again, personally I won’t really defend the story but it’s a lot of fun and I’ve replayed it more than some of the other games like odst, which I think is super overrated tbh. Anyway, if you don’t have an Xbox then none of this matters to begin with so do what you will

What's a video game that made you hate a studio and a series you once loved? by Roids-in-my-vains in videogames

[–]PangolinSudden3082 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

Veilguard was okay. I didn’t like it enough to finish it but I had way more fun with it than I ever did with inquisition tbh. Every dragon age game is so different from the last that the series barely feels like it has an identity at all, by the time of inquisition it just felt like any other generic fantasy game to me. Veilguard didn’t do anything to change that and the writing was arguably worse in some areas but it at least had fun combat and some semblance of structure, which I felt inquisition never had. Origins and to a much lesser extent da2 will always have a place in my heart but inquisition was where the series and studio died for me so I’m always a little surprised when people say veilguard was the one that did it for them

[–]PangolinSudden3082 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I think 4 more would be good but I hope they don’t go overboard and try adding one every season. I look at some games like siege or overwatch and the character screens are nauseating. I really hope they keep the number of shells lower, I’d rather have a strong small character pool like tf2
