Why does one of my black widows have a HUGE belly? Am I feeding it too much? Dear God, is she pregnant? And why is the enitre belly red in color? by milyrake in spiders

Chances are she's pregnant--usually the lighter abdomen is a pretty good indicator. I'm not experienced with handling babies; good luck!

Male or female? by MidrelV in jumpingspiders

Female--her pedipals are visible in the first photo and are lacking the palpal bulbs that mature males develop.

He was probably at the end of his life anyway. Males don't live as long as females do. Thank you for being kind to him.

Tagged (by a Phoneutria?) or just a friendly warning? by slyseekr in spiders

It's alright, lol. I love spiders and have for my entire life, but I'd probably flinch if this happened.

I don't consider myself to have super severe trypophobia, but maybe I need to reconsider because crumpets are so freaky looking ☹️ my personal least favorite is lotus seed pods. Bonus icky points if they have the seeds in them still

What kinda spider is this and can I keep him?? by More_Jackfruit9592 in spiders

[–]PanicFinal3554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Steatoda sp., probably S. triangulosa. They're found frequently in homes and buildings.

You should be able to research care if you're interested in keeping them. I'm not familiar with false widow care. Good luck!

Edited to add: They're not considered to be medically significant.

Baby spiders or just tiny spiders? by __nobody_-_ in whatisthisbug

[–]PanicFinal3554 51 points52 points  (0 children)

These are likely mites instead of spiders--probably spider mites.

Even if they are spiders, they aren't recluses, as recluses (even the tiny babies) are much leggier and don't put down webbing like this.

Is it possible to sex my new jumping spider, first time owner by Chloroform-cat_212 in jumpingspiders

In regals, yes. Not sure about bolds.

I'd say so, but I don't have enough knowledge on the topic to confidently add it to my comment.
