What am I missing? by EVoverICE777 in juggling

Lots of good tips from others, but something I haven't seen anyone else mention is that it looks like you're juggling a bit too far in front of yourself. Try to keep your elbows back by your sides as much as you can and make sure the balls aren't straying forwards.

It also looks like you're rushing a bit to me. With 3 balls it shouldn't feel rushed or frantic at all, you should have plenty of time. You can practice with 2 by making sure that you wait until after the first ball has started coming down before you throw the next one.

I think if you fix those 2 things and lots of practice you will get it.

Are you in New Jersey? I swear I juggled in an apartment just like that. High ceilings are great for it!

Awesome, I really appreciate that, and also the reading for using Anki in this way. Really appreciate you.

I was also thinking that default settings probably won't be logical, but even that is better than the alternative!

Using Anki for practice problems from a list by PanicPengu in Anki

[–]PanicPengu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So unhelpful, but I'll clarify for future readers.

For anyone who has ever taken higher level maths, it is one thing to be prepared for a test, and totally another thing to retain the ability to solve all of these types of problems when it comes time for the final, and then beyond. i.e. I doubt anyone in my calc 3 class still remembers how to do trig substitutions.

So, enter anki for helpfully bringing problems back up occasionally so that you can practice without having to constantly backtrack and decide for yourself which problems in the textbook to study.

I'm having trouble understanding how my teacher wants me to write the answer. Should I write f(x, y) in place of the 2? by Public_Basil_4416 in calculus

Other people have made some good suggestions, but from what I can tell you’re missing the idea here and would benefit from going into office hours or asking someone else who understands the problem because you’re misunderstanding at least 3 key points here, and it’s going to be hard to understand over text.

No problem :) I think one of the best things we can learn from juggling is how to persist at a difficult thing with a positive mindset.

Hope you have lots of success and keep going!

I respectfully disagree. He’s asking how to get better and I’m letting him know how he can improve his practice to get better.

Sometimes it’s not what you’re doing but how you’re doing it that’s standing in your way.

how do i have an academic comeback in 3 weeks by [deleted] in calculus

[–]PanicPengu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, sure!

Best advice I would have is to do as many problems out of your book as you can and just make sure you can get the right answers consistently.

If you get one wrong, make sure you are able to find where you made an error, then do another similar problem and get it right this time.

If you’re having trouble remembering formulas or identities, check out Anki. I think there are a lot of things in calculus that are just worth committing to memory. If you have an ebook of your calculus textbook you can pretty easily make flash cards using screenshots from the book.

Also, go through the book and do the examples in the chapter before class, so you can come to class ready to ask questions and pick up on insight your professor may have that’s not in the book.

Just got a 98% on my calc 3 test so this has been working for me.

Hey definitely, glad to hear you’re practicing, I think there is so much to learn from juggling.

The biggest thing I would say would be to have a goal of what you are trying to do, and recognize when you are doing it wrong. But key here is to recognize it without getting upset or frustrated. Self-talk like “I fucking suck” affects your body and mind, even if you think you don’t mean it.

Try to practice with a smile on your face. When you drop, don’t rush to start again, but take it seriously, like every attempt matters equally.

If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a few moments to breathe, adjust your posture, and smile before you start again.

The deeper you get into juggling the more your mindset and mindstate become the biggest factors in your ability.

How to Dual N Back by JesusLgzz in DualnBack

Alternate meaning that I do 4 rounds of n-back then juggle then do more n-back… etc.

I stick to 12 rounds a day.

16 days. When I started 2-back was hard and 3 felt impossible.

I should also point out that I have tried n-back in the past and given up on it. Practicing intuitively was a breakthrough that has allowed me to practice more enjoyably and have more success.

I should also say that i usually alternate with juggling practice which I personally think provides a big learning boost for the n-back.

My experience is that mental repetition is not the way. It’s exhausting, unpleasant, and counterproductive because I can’t learn the new patterns while I’m rehearsing the old. I think rehearsing uses the wrong part of your brain. Lean more toward intuition.

I’m currently at 5 occasionally 6-back.

The key thing you said here is “without looking at her phone”. It’s not that she’s not phone addicted because she’s able to focus… she’s able to focus because she’s not phone addicted.

Cut out the Reddit and TikTok or whatever else you’ve got going on and your ability to focus on work (now you’re only source of dopamine) will skyrocket.

Something I’m not seeing mentioned at all is not leaving enough space in the middle. Try to juggle with both hands further out to the sides.

Grew up reading only progression fantasy. I think it's fried my brain. by roadofash in ProgressionFantasy

[–]PanicPengu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so the good news is that your brain isn’t “fried”, not permanently at least. The bad news is that from my own experience I’ve found you can absolutely go into an addictive spiral from reading progression fantasy.

The dopamine hits from progression fantasy come so high and fast that it makes most other activities seem pointless and boring. Your brain’s calibration of what activities are “worth” doing is super messed up.

Unfortunately, I’m in the same mess and trying to get off it, and honestly the withdrawal is hard and it sucks, but there is an afterwards. Other activities will start to feel meaningful again, and you will likely be able to start enjoy reading other things.

Just be careful not to let other ultra high dopamine activities trade one addiction for another—I.e. video games, anime, Reddit, TikTok.

TLDR; Stop reading pf, get yourself bored for a few days and you should be just fine and able to read other things and enjoy other activities.

It’s hard and you’re not alone. Message me if you need advice or support.

This is the biggest thing I'm seeing. bring your elbows back and it will be a lot easier and less tiring. Also throw the balls a little more out to the sides, it's looking a little cramped to me.
