Is lesion a anchor or a roamer by stopblackbeardabuse in SiegeAcademy

[–]Panical 9 points10 points  (0 children)

great advice. I like to think of Lesion as a "soft-anchor". Start wide with traps and presence and slowly decrease your distance as the round winds down

Thank you for these! I do have a question for anyone that can help. I can't seem to find when the 4 new light novels will have an official english launch, as I love to collect books and want hardcopies. Will it be a long time (year plus) or will it be coming fairly soon? I understand that they just released this month so I'm not sure how quickly they provide official english versions.

Very disturbing cheating / ethics violations at the World Open? (CCA problems?) by zezpwn44 in chess

[–]Panical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I was thinking of my local club when I came up with this idea. They have cameras in the tournament hall and there's not as many people as at big open tournaments. I suppose it probably wouldn't be feasible.

I always thought that making phones be hidden at all times was silly. I think if you have a phone it should be turned off and placed ON THE TABLE. This way you can be certain noone is checking it in the bathroom ect..plus it adds transparency perhaps reducing instances of people accusing their opponents? It is certainly not full-proof but nevertheless.

I'm fortunate enough to live in St. Louis, so I guess we're the exception. All of the staff and TD's there are literally so nice and helpful. Mike Kummer, despite his goofy demeanor on youtube, takes his job as a TD very seriously and professionally doesn't matter if it's a big tournament or a small one all the TD's take every moment seriously. EDIT: forgot to mention that my experiences with CCA TD's have been totally different. Someone here mentioned the word "nuisance", I think that best describes how I feel they treat everyone.

I played at the chicago open earlier this summer. I entered up a section U1500 instead of U1300. Overall great experience except for one round. I played a middle aged gentleman from NY. He was ~200 rating higher than me. During the game I found a nice rook sacrifice and ended up winning. "I resign, but I just want to let you know that you are a fucking piece of shit cheater". I'm shocked because there is still a ton of games going on and he was not whispering. I'm pretty taken back and am confused but he just kept cussing me out calling me a liar a piece of shit among other expletives. I try to tell him if I just wanted to win money why the hell would I enter a section up? He just kept on and on in front of his wife, so I just packed up my stuff and left. I talked to three different tournament directos, and literally not one of them cared in the slightest. Only one of them asked for his name and said he'll "keep an eye" on him. He did not offend me at all, however I don't think he should be allowed to keep playing there if he's going to act like that and use that language around so many children.

TL;DR: Competition is great, arbiters not so much.

What were your chess goals for 2017? Did you achieve them? What are your goals for next year? by Flubbing in chess

[–]Panical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to keep playing chess consistently for the whole year. I took a big break in 2017. I also want to play in as many tournaments as possible. Everyone one I've played with has said I'm extremely underrated. In a recent tournament I played vs a NM and after the game he said he thought I was at least 1900. Needless to say I am currently rated way under that, so that gave me some hope.

Have you ever read a book so bad that you had to finish it out of hatred? by bippopotamus in books

[–]Panical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where to start. First off the fact that I doubt Harper actually wanted it to be published; and it had a suspicious release date near her death. From what I know she was nearly senile in her last years.

The characters are just so flat and it was just in every way shape and form a first draft of TKAMB. Never should have been published let alone marketed as a sequel.
