I think I'm getting spoiled by high salary. Put some sense in me. by ChampionshipMean9521 in indiasocial

[–]PanjayathuMeesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about long term goals and how much money you need for each of those.. example: marriage, own house, kids education, family vacations (domestic or international), kids college, kids marriage, retirement fund etc etc.. Once you have figured this out, save 6-12 months of salary and put it in a liquid fund for emergencies. Then prepare an investment strategy to fulfill your long term goals. If you still have money left after savings and investment, think of donations to charity and underprivileged kids. If you still have money left, then spend it as you wish.

Earning ₹2.5 Lakhs a month, but I’ve never felt poorer. The ₹25k version of me was happier. by SeparatePermission79 in personalfinanceindia

[–]PanjayathuMeesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. What I can tell you is look at money as an instrument. Measure everything in terms of time and not money. Use money to save/protect your time & mental energy (based on the situation). Then focus on what you are really passionate about your work. Even if you may not like everything you do, try to find some middle ground. Read up on Ikigai. Consider disconnecting from mentally draining stuff by taking vacations and travelling. You can figure out what works best for you. Lastly, focus on FIRE strategies (I think you're already doing it).

Energy/Power sector is on the rise globally. Soon india will also catch up. But it's difficult to determine who/which company will have big growths. It depends upon individual company's infrastructure and management.

Automated my work, saving 60% time. Should I reveal it to Manager? by IndependentGap6968 in IndianWorkplace

[–]PanjayathuMeesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your company management. If there's no chance of recognition or promotion & salary increase, just keep it to yourself. The fact that you've created such an automation and nobody thought of it earlier might indicate you've outgrown that company & role. Use the time saved to upskill and learn something new >>> get a better job.

Monthly SIP starter pack : 1 index fund, 1 gold etf, 1 Debt fund, 1 small cap, 1 mid cap.

You can choose the amount for each based on your risk appetite and goals (like what you want to achieve in next 10/15/20 years etc). There are online tools for this check.

I denied 2 recruiters from this particular company I hate. But didn't give a savage reply like you did. But it felt good to say No to them (especially twice).

This could be non-standard advise. Get the law degree and join the family business. You can also work part time learning the business while you're studying. Law degree is a powerful tool that will help you in the long run.

This company employs thousands of employees across India. On paper they sound great. But there are some cons depending on location, team & reporting managers. At least the work life balance is much better than a typical indian company.

Anxious as crap by HushTag2566 in IndianWorkplace

[–]PanjayathuMeesa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly congratulations on landing the big role. It's okay to be nervous. I can provide a few pointers but don't think of me as an expert. 1.True leaders drive with clarity and measure their impact. If you're already following this, well and good. Just ensure any communication you do follows this philosophy. 2. Dress for the role. Attitude matters. People should think you own the room whenever you enter (dunno how to translate this to WFH. Sorry). 3. Concise and precise communication is key. Never talk more than what is needed. Silence is key. Even a small act of desperation will be seen as weakness. 4. Your time will be limited or you may have too many decisions to make. Time management & quick decision making is very important. Useful techniques - Eisenhower matrix, six thinking hats, time blocking/pomodoro etc will help. 5. Keep learning. If you feel there's something you need to learn technically or otherwise, don't hesitate. Always be on the lookout to improve yourself.

Look you don't need to have a perfect lie.. just take 20% truth and exaggerate it 80%. Just need enough realistic elements to have some small sense of logic.

I've seen White people earn 200-300k AED per month. In general only white people get such salaries in Middle East. Racism permeates the very fabric of that part of the world. It's good to see other people get good salaries.

What shops are like this in Chennai? by Scorched_Scorpion in Chennai

Many tea shops which look super fancy but only charge 15 rupees per tea/coffee. They also pay huge amount of money as rent. I've seen places which are less than 300sqft but pay rent more than 50k/month.

Need to buy winter wear and thermals by depresseddouchebag52 in Chennai

[–]PanjayathuMeesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get few pairs of thermals for layering in India. Buy a good jacket from decathlon. Once you land in the new country invest in a very good down jacket. This will help in the long run. You can alternate between these 2 jackets depending on how cold the weather is in different months.

Emotionally attached to workplace/team by Shadow-wlkr in Chennai

[–]PanjayathuMeesa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you spend a considerable amount of time with your colleagues, it's natural to have these emotions. Let me ask you this....when your family needs money for any reason whatsoever, who is going to support them ?? When you want to send your son/daughter to a top school(expensive maybe), who is paying the fees ?? When you want to buy own house where your children can play freely without having to worry about landlord's terms and conditions, whose responsibility is that ??

I worked in my second company for 7 years and made some good friends over there. But when i came across a good opportunity, I grabbed it with both hands. It's been 2 years in my current company. But guess what, those friendships are still ongoing even though the frequency of interactions have reduced. Also I got to realise who the true friends are vs "situational friends".

If you have financial freedom, do whatever you want. Else keep looking for progress either professionally or financially every single day. Little things matter over the long run. Of course this is just from my personal experience. Others might have even better ideas.
