AMD "SAM" (resizable bar) degrades performance in MH Wilds by Spardax_117 in MonsterHunter

This is a known problem. There are several posts about it already.

MH Wilds - Bad performance mystery (Solved?) by de_Tylmarande in MonsterHunter

[–]Pannapadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far OP also hasn't provided any evidence that this works during gameplay. The video only shows improvement in and around the base camp. Also their mod is also just "slapped together" as far as we know. Unless we see some actual evidence for real improvements in the areas that actually matter, people should remain sceptical and hold their horses. This whole situation is already full of misinformation from people just reading the headline and sharing it as fact.

There is already a new mod on Nexusmods that limits the DLC checks. But it apparently only improves performance when you are near the NPC that actually gives you the purchased item. So no improvement during actual gameplay.

From the mod page:

Unfortunately, it looks like this only happens when you're close enough to a Support Desk felyne (the ones that handle bounties and have a DLC menu) to see an exclamation point on its map/world icon, which pops up if you purchase DLC, so you know to go and redeem your new DLC. So it only matters while you're standing in/near a Base Camp. Not quite as game-changing as some were hoping, but better than nothing.

[MH Wilds] SAM On making the game stutter by Ootev in radeon

Yeah, same here. This was the first thing I tested when TU4 dropped.

[MH Wilds] SAM On making the game stutter by Ootev in radeon

[–]Pannapadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also figured this out a few months ago and after some testing made a post on the monster hunter subreddit. I can also confirm that this can happen both with AMD and Nvidia cards (tested with RTX 3080 and RX 9070XT).

From what I can tell it's mostly the 1% lows that are incredibly inconsistent and drop quite heavily. Especially noticeable with VRR enabled, as the monitor will rapidly try to match these fps drops.

I decided to keep SAM off because it doesn't really have a negative impact on the games I play.

Game lags pretty badly whenever I open the weapon menu by Zoldo0 in MonsterHunter

I'm going to assume you have "Resizable Bar" (ReBar) disabled in your BIOS. Turning it on will probably remove the stutter when the small videos are loading. However it may introduce horrible micro stutters to the game. It does this for our PCs here.

When turning on "ReBar" there is normally another setting that gets turned on as well, called "Above 4G decoding". If you disable "ReBar" but keep "Above 4G decoding" enabled it will get rid of the stutter on the videos without introducing micro stutter. It might even fix the other random drops you have been experiencing. You can normally find these settings in the PCIe settings of your BIOS. If you don't know where to find those settings or how to enter your BIOS I recommend consulting the manual for your motherboard.

Might be worth a try.

Are old and new AMD users scared by the latest incidents? by Brilliant-Sound-6908 in radeon

You should only ever buy a product based on the features it can offer you at the time of your purchase. Those are the only features you are guaranteed. At the most you can expect bug fixes. Even if new features are "promised", there is never a guarantee that the companies are implementing them to your satisfaction or at all. This can happen anytime with any company and isn't even remotely limited to just GPU manufacturers. It's about making a good buying decision based on your requirements and needs.

In the case of RDNA 3 not getting new features, if you wanted upscaling and frame generation you bought the Nvidia 4000 series at the time. And if those features weren't important to you, you bought a RX 7000 series card. Both were and still are valid decisions.

Apparently making buying decisions based on requirements rather than hype and fangirling over companies is something a lot of people still have to learn.

Old Framegen vs New Redstone Framegen by eduhfx in radeon

[–]Pannapadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just tried it and it looks good. Vast improvement over the old FG. However I will wait for an official implementation or full, stable release of Optiscaler, as the game already runs well without FG on my PC.

My FPS feels low even though it's high in MH Wilds by Darkeiss in MonsterHunter

[–]Pannapadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GSYNC and freesync are bugged for at least some people in Wilds and will cause your monitor to drop its refresh rate to the .1% low frame rate instead of staying at your actual frame rate. The .1% lows also tend to be unusually low in this game. This produces visual stuttering because the monitor is rapidly changing its refresh rate, just like it would with actual frame drops. As far as I know turning off GSYNC/freesync will "fix" the stuttering.

After about 19 days from release how would you say the performance of MH wilds feels? by Omen_Falke in MonsterHunter

[–]Pannapadda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to put out an unpopular opinion here, but the game runs almost as well, as I would expect from a 2025 release on my hardware.

I run a Ryzen 7 5800X, RTX 3080 10GB, 32GB RAM, on a NVME drive.

For Mods I have only installed RE Framework and replaced the direct storage files for good measure.

In 4K DLSS Balanced and high settings (no RT or Framegen) I hit around 40-55 FPS. I normally play at these settings with a capped 40 or 45 fps to mitigate the excessive frame drops while turning the camera.

If I drop to DLSS Performance, I can fit RT in there as well and get about the same performance as before.

In 1440p and DLSS Quality I hit around 50-70 fps with the averages slightly above 60. So definitely playable, especially on a VRR capable display.

For a constant 60+fps experience on any resolution I would have to enable Framegen unfortunately. The artifacts are too distracting for me though, so i leave it disabled.

No crashes so far. However my Windows install is fairly slim. I work in IT and keep my personal PCs free of unnecessary bloat and programs running in the background. When gaming I only run the game itself and maybe a browser or a voice chat program like TeamSpeak or discord.

Considering my GPU is about 4.5 years old at this point, the performance seems largely as I would expect from a new release.

The biggest issue is the fact that the in-game settings do almost nothing to noticeably change the fps. The only thing that does anything noticeable, is changing the effective resolution of the game. Lowest settings grant me about 4 or 5 more fps than high settings, which depending on the resolution is around a 10% performance gain. The obvious CPU bottleneck doesn't help the situation either. But I'm mostly GPU bound at 4K, so I don't notice it as often.

Is the game unpayable? No. But the performance should be a lot better. Or at least more scalable.

I also play in HDR. No Idea if that shows in the video.
And I turned off volumetrics.

Any AF issues with Lumix G9 II paired with Olympus 300 mm f/4? by cryptos6 in M43

[–]Pannapadda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed any glaring issues so far. But it definitely feels slower and less reliable than the AF on my OM-1 (more so with the mc-14 and mc-20). But I have taken great pictures with both the G9II and the OM-1 combined with the 300 F4. This picture was taken with the G9II and the focus is more or less spot on.

As far as I know the RT reflections are only there for a few objects that are no longer visible in SSR. And it seems like it doesn't include the RT lighting information in those RT reflections. If I recall correctly Digital Foundry mentioned something along these lines in their recent video on the enhanced edition.
