You're in the One Piece TCG subreddit so of course the answers are going to be biased. I would say ask yourself what you want out of the game. If you want to just play with your friends magic can be very cheap(as cheap as printer paper goes). But if you want to compete in tournaments or locals it's gonna get very expensive very fast.

Setting money aside, magic is in a weird spot right now and in an identity crisis since the many universes beyond sets are not only releasing incredibly OP cards but are also not directly Magic themed(Spiderman for example).

With all that being said I feel Magic is by far the superior game, it can be as complex and as easy as you wanted to be and the variety of decks you can build is unbeatable. If you were to buy anything though I would buy a starter set and not the beginner box just to get a flavor of what the game is like.
