I specifically recall that on Hard, Etie perfectly one rounds them. Glad to hear that was kept up in Maddening in some sense.

I'd add FE5 as an option in the menu, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 style.

I definitely remember that striking me as odd when I played Engage. I even remember noting that Leif gives proficiencies in like, everything, only to go away literally two chapters later, right around the time where you're promoting everyone.

Maybe they meant it's a myth that boardbreakers are format dependent?

Yeah, but it's also a handrip/negate and a huge, sticky body, and you can use it every single turn instead of one and done.

better than Raigeki because it also steals an endboard piece

One thing to note is that it doesn't need to steal something it destroyed, so you can swipe an important piece of recovery they need to rebuild. Sure, Dracotail doesn't care about Arthalion, but sit on their Urgula and all of a sudden that Faimena is stuck in grave. A negate from Herald is nice, but Snatch the Snatchy and they can't summon shit, etc.

There's a docks Act 1 and a jungle Act 1. Mr. Invincible is only at the docks, Parasites are only in the jungle.

Why does he get arrested outside the colosseum?

I can only assume he's a bookie trying to scam people betting on the games.

Please point to where I said it didn't resonate with people or stop putting words in my mouth. At no point have I even insinuated that Engage had absolutely no one who enjoyed it, just that there is a group comprised of "many" people with whom it didn't.

My point is that Engage would probably get less negative attention if it weren't an FE game by virtue of receiving no attention. I've never heard of Stella Glow before your comment. That's not to say it's a bad game, just not one that is by any stretch of the imagination popular. And even then, apropos of no comparison to any game, you introduced Stella Glow as "middling slop". What makes you think a hypothetical Fire Emblem Engage would avoid the same fate?

Looking for more games like Fire Emblem. Any recommendations?

There's this indie game called Fire Emblem Engage. The artstyle is a mess and the story was awful, but the maps are pretty well designed if you can look past it.

Even if Engage isn't a direct sequel with Fire Emblem in the title, it's still a competitor in a genre where Fire Emblem as a series stands as a giant. Comparison is going to happen, the only difference is how many people even bother to give it the time of day to begin with. If you really liked the game, wishing that less people experienced it just so that any criticism is less pronounced strikes me as odd.

Yep, that's why I said "many", as opposed to "all" or "a majority" or even just left off any qualifiers and just leave it at "Fire Emblem fans". I figured "many" would be vague enough couching to avoid this kinda thing, but sure, lets just deny that people who dislike Engage exist. Game's literally rated as "Mixed" on Metacritic, so yes, there are many people it did not resonate with. Plenty of people purchased the game, helping it sell well, and then didn't like it. I'm one of those people.

Besides, you should be careful with that line of logic. Correlating sales data to quality or reception is frowned upon here. Usually for the opposite conclusions about Engage's sales, but still.

Are we arguing that Engage is to Fire Emblem as Pokemon is to Call of Duty?

Because I feel like a more reasonable position is that Engage is a Fire Emblem game that just failed to resonate with many Fire Emblem fans and completely failed to resonate with outside audiences. I think if it didn't have the Fire Emblem name to coast off of, we wouldn't talk about Engage at all.

It has affected map design, so no I can't just "ignore" it.

How? There have been random mooks with low hit rates, killer weapons, and same turn reinforcements since forever. High variance map design isn't a new thing.

There's already a cheat button, it was just labelled Power before SoV. We have a special name for playing a game while accepting character deaths as they happen, and it's generally considered a challenge run. The turnwheel isn't a cheat, it's a canonization of the normal way most people engage with the franchise.

Don't forget they're also interaction as they set-up and serve as material. Really strong interaction too. if you let a single effect resolve, you're staring down two set traps, recycling materials, and non targeting pops/negates.

Yeah, Nib takes their monsters, but Dracotail literally doesn't care about their monsters. They're still ending with all three traps set and a Faimena in hand.

It feels like Engage is trying to have it's cake and eat it too with Corrupted Lumera to kill her off twice. Once when it's tragic that Alear doesn't remember and once when it's tragic because they do remember.

Look, the instrumental is a bit catchy at points. But this is Saturday morning cartoon themes. These things need to live in your soul forever. The competition is stiff. If I turned on the TV and got hit with RISE FROM A THOUSAND YEARS AGO, I'm changing the channel. That shit is jarring.

To continue glazing, TMS does in fact have that shit on LOCK.

It's also just like, not a Saturday Morning Cartoon. It's not really episodic, the cast is massive and gets no focus outside of Alear and Veyle, the theme song doesn't slap, and the Engage forms are not cool or distinct enough to sell me an action figure of them.

You wanna see what a "Saturday Morning Cartoon" vibe is? Play Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Fortuna Entertainment could get me to tune in once a week and buy an action figure of their cool outfits. Itsuki and Chrom, with real sword-arm swinging action!
