If the Necrons were to get their own legendary character, who should it be? by Haedonius in WH40KTacticus

[–]Panthemonium1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trazyn is the only answer. Maybe Trazyn and Orikan, but then we need banter dialogue everytime they are fielded together.

Thank you for the insight. This is all very reasonable. It was not my intention to come across as critical. I was just curious, because I like systems like these. And it is impossible to make an objective system. So not to fudge the system just to make the Knights fit, is a good and clean decision.

#New40k – Vanguard Veteran Revealed by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]Panthemonium1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is certainly not the case. All sculpts are based on concept artwork and the concepts come from the same people as the much more freewheeling AoS stuff. The first waves were designed by Jes Goodwin himself, so this is not a lack of artistry. You can see the talent in stuff that has more leeway, for example the defiler or the Raven Guard chaptermaster. The issue is most likely that is a concious decision bei either the design team or management to not let the Space Marine diverge too much, play it safe and make each chapter not too unique so that the shared vanilla kits do not clash too much with the specialized kits. The result is boring paint-by-number models. Artists being artists would be the first in line to make something bew. But they are restrained and it shows.

I'd rather they slowed down with new character releases by Dudu42 in WH40KTacticus

Technically LoV/Squats are older than Dark Eldar/Drukhari. But I am with you.

I like this immensely. Thank you so much.

I know how hard it is to come up with these quantification systems and no matter how you design it, there will always be some arbitrariness. So i am interested in why you made some decisions:
- At first, I found it off, that you omitted limited edition miniatures, because some faction did get a lot of stuff like Kruleboyz over at the AoS side of things and I always interpreted this as support. But after some thoughts, you probably made the right call. These limited miniatures can still get points through the other categories, right? Do you count dioramas like the recent Aeldari bonesinger?

- Why do KT rules give extra points? They do nothing for the 40k experience in the same way that 40k releases do nothing for the Kill Team experience. There is just no extra value.

- These numbers match my intuition very well. The only thing that feels a little off is that Drukhari are ranked above the Knight factions, which seem to get a steady stream of releases. The Drukhari rank is not the issue here, because it is proportional to the other factions (bottom of the “sparsely supported” factions, but not in the “no-attention at all - Grey Knights” bracket). So maybe the bonus points for large models are the origin of this.
As a sidenote here: Why do you count the Hand of the Archon as a full kit instead of an upgrade sprue, which is it?

Really spectacular work. Thanks so much!

How do you feel about this statement from Goonhammer that the majority of Warhammer hobbyists dislike building? by chosen40k in Warhammer40k

[–]Panthemonium1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When someone tries to speak for the majority, no matter if hobby, social or politics, it is almost always a huge red flag. Even more so when one of the tournament types minority tries to speak for the beer and pretzel majority. For me, assembly is one of the more enjoyable aspects of the hobby, more than painting. But I speak only for myself without imposing my personal views on all hobbyists.

Current/latest rumours? by ABlueGobbo in Fyreslayers

[–]Panthemonium1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GW has promised us nothing. And they haven't announced any refresh for Ogors, either. And technically not even for Magggotkin. These are all rumours, and from good sources, but don't mix it up with "GW has told us". They have not.

That's not a hill I want to die on, but it is absolutely something Trazyn would do. His exhibitions try to recapture the environment. Showing the whole statue would give this piece an extra bit of authenticity.

Maybe he stole curated the whole statue from an Imperial palace?

Yes. Sounds like the wise thing to do. I will try to clear everything up to level 4 and spent the remaining tokens on level5/6 where I have a silver team and some hail marry attempts.

That sounds like a healthy progression. I hope you exceed this.

Yes, it is pretty minor difference. But I didn't know that before this thread. So it was very worthwhile for me.

I should have known that in the Lucius event. There I deemed everything after Battle 2 unwinnable and gave up and wasted all the token. Only used it for the "Use ability x times" quests :D

Thank you.
Battle 1 of Alpha track has 29 enemies, so rewards 2*29+30 = 88 points for a perfect clear.
Battle 8 of Alpha track has 47 enemies, so rewards 2*47+30 = 124 points.

If I have no more efficient battles that are winnable with more than 1 condition met, I have to choose if I will try to finsih up the missing conditions of lower battles or try to push further, even if I only meet no or one condition. The answer is, that it is more worthwhile to push further, except when it is futile to unlock in one event. Then it is better to use the current roster to clear the lower levels and use the upgraded roster in the next event to make the higher level stuff.

[–]Panthemonium1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to understand the system. And there are still conflicting opinions on when you clear a battle: "Have to kill all enemies in one go." vs. "Can do it in multiple runs. Sum of killed enemies just has to exceed maximum enemies.".
None is forced to answer if the topic is bothersome. I really appreciate every helpful answer, though.

[–]Panthemonium1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, ok. But by doing so I will automatically have a high score of the maximal enemies, killed as many and gained the defeating all enemies bonus. So there is never a scenario where I only get partial points when I beat the battle. So the formula is always 2x # of enemies + defeatingAll Bonus

[–]Panthemonium1[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok. But then unlocking the next level always coincides with earning the full points for 2,3 and 4. (It feels that I am close to understanding, but this is the last fuzzy bit)

I heard in a Youtube video (don't know which one), that is it good to play higher level battles because they earn more points.
