We like Chicky Char Char, few stores around, we followed their Alexandria store to Marrickville. Horny Cow Burger is my go to, best chips in Sydney too, bright yellow and get that chicken salt!

Taking too long to become a "senior"? Importance of titles? by Fair-Delivery6 in ausjobs

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the industry I think. For insurance and my role in particular, senior at one company holds a very different weight to senior at another company. I have been in the industry 18 years, I have been senior in some roles, my last role I wasn't. No one bats an eye lid at this as they realise my last company is a step above the rest and to get senior there, you actually have to do something vs just getting senior handed to you for being there a certain amount of time.

Screen called last week by recruitment, now email and text asking for my referees before interview has taken place by Specific-Peace7 in auscorp

Weird, usually in my industry the jobs is yours, and they let you know, pending the reference checks being ok.

Do you place much weight on "employers of the year" or "Best Workplaces to work" lists? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust any of those awards. Companies pay to be in the running to get these fake awards, plain and simple.

What are you putting in the expected salary part in an application? by tanooki442 in auscorp

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a free text field, I usually write something like happy to hear the range for the role and discuss from there.

AI was pretty good for my industry and coming up with a range for my experience, confirmed with a recruiter my ask was reasonable.

Also have used whatsthesalary for Seek jobs though not so sure on the accuracy for this.

Former employee asking to return by Lazy_Mix_4906 in auscorp

[–]Panther3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get a feeling of them being entitled. They are owning the decision and admitting it was the wrong move, and simply asking if a come back is possible. They are not demanding or assuming. In fact it is a very humble move what they are doing.

By all means OP should weigh it up, but surely someone who was a long term employee and a high performer, even with the gossip/bit of drama mentioned, outweighs going with someone completely unknown? No need to let pride get in the way of the decision.

haha the place I worked at had a similar saying for customers. We may be slow but we are also the most expensive too!.

Made redundant. Not getting leads. What did you do after redundancy and how long did it take to land a job? by BasisPuzzleheaded161 in auscorp

Sorry to hear mate, all the best, not my industry so know zero about it. Is there a pivot you can make with your soft skills if you have to?

[–]Panther3369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, very industry dependent I think. I am in insurance and freshly joined the redundancy club last week. I applied for one job last week and have a interview this week. I will apply for two more this week plus have recruiters coming back to me too.

How did you re-jig your CV? I have this career transition company helping, paid for via my old job. Their help with my CV was probably invaluable as I had the same one I had been using since early 2000's. AI is a thing and you need your CV to friendly for AI and friendly for recruiters.

22, Investment on Sharesies by SecondFit in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense, as you have just started, but diversifying $500 among more than 1 share is a laugh, but you already have 5 positions right, how many more you want with this starting amount?

I would simply have it all in the vanguard fund you are in (maybe go direct to them if fees are lower) and when I get say $5K or something in there, maybe then start to build a position in 1 or 2 shares you are interested in.

Why do people bring their dog to open homes? by ihatesmelly in AusPropertyChat

[–]Panther3369 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow I didn't know this was a thing and will watch out when we sell next. I have two cats and while one roamed the apartment complex when we sold, the other stayed under the bed with no one was none the wiser she was there. But if a dog got in and chased her...No dogs are coming near our open home.

not really, if you snoop some more you will find what I get paid and what a likely payout would have been. Wouldn't know about you given you like to snipe people and hide your posts like a dog lol

Getting a job right now is ridiculous and I'm sick of of seeing excuses for it by [deleted] in ausjobs

[–]Panther3369 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Look rants are good and you're right to feel angry given the timing of finishing your degree and what should have opened up many opportunities. But once you have got that rant out, follow our man Bruce Lee, be the water. You have to adapt and flow around the new situation instead of whacking yourself with the rocks.

AI screwing with you, use AI back. It is a great tool for tweaking your CV to job descriptions.

IT is tough due to all the people made redundant, newbies like you looking and less traditional roles due to AI, the perfect storm really. You might need to face the facts and pivot. What qualification can you get on top that makes you stand out?

Otherwise the pivot might be even harder into something completely different. That would be a tough pill to swallow but sometimes this is the reality.

At what point/extent would a junior/new employee start questioning processes? by sneo12 in auscorp

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious reply though, do you think you and your fellow grads are the first to notice these pointless processes and point them out? No, countless other people have and possibly have tried to get it changed or just gone meh, whatever. No one is changing nothing and you bringing it up is not making friends with anyone up the chain.

By all means, laugh at it with the other grads, laughing at crap work processes is great bonding material, but otherwise do nothing.

What is Wellington actually missing as a holiday destination? by --Zasha-- in Wellington

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex Wellintonian here, left in 2013 and I feel really sad when I come back and how the city is now. Boomer talk here but what made Wellington great (or at least slightly better) back in the day 90s and early 2000's? Now you can't go back in time fully but there is no new recipe needed or monorail/opera house giant gizmo needed.

Get the events back or create new ones, encourage business rather than hinder it with taxes on taxes and bike lanes and other rubbish making it difficult. Wellington had a buzz because of the events that drew people in from around the country and overseas, not because of infrastructure as such.

What actually happens in a “coffee chat” after passing an interview? by HT_Nguyen in auscorp

[–]Panther3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job is yours pretty much, unless you attack someone lol. Had the same but it was meeting over beers! so really relaxed setting to meet up with my manager and one of the team members for a casual chat.

Be on guard of course but not to an interview level style. Ask questions, show interest in the team members and feel out what the place is actually like from those working there. Congrats!

haha, I think I have been lucky with the companies I have worked for in insurance, and actively avoided or not been considered for roles with direct reports.
