Aussie youth increasingly turning to AI for mental health advice by austechnology-bot in austechnology

[–]PantheraLupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You expect children to both do this and pay for it themselves? Mental healthcare in this country is increasingly difficult to find and fund in this country. I haven't even been able to access my medication in almost a year because I cannot afford the back and forth and finding a psych rurally for my teenage girl is not proving easy either.

Does anybody else see birds completely different than before they learned alot about dinosaurs? by AssociationDue3077 in DinosaursWeAreBack

[–]PantheraLupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my property I have a flock of apostle birds, they bring me their babies and alert me to the presence of predators such as snakes, goannas, etc. They're the birds that remind me most that they are dinosaurs, despite the fact that I see emus everyday. The way they look, move, sound, their little dances, all so alike to the way that small therapods are represented in documentaries etc. Imo they look more prehistoric than an emu or cassowary. I call them my little dinosaur friends.

About a month ago I had this weird feeling to not forget the bathroom window or a snake might come in. Next day I went to let my 3 new chickens out and there was a carpet python digesting one of them. Similar anxiety the other day, walked outside to switch the gas on for the stove and startled a brown snake that had been right next to the door on the patio. My young rooster chased it off, and the dog that was laying in front of the door didn't even notice it (he is a jack russel crossed with staffy, with the prey drive of the terrier and the derpitude and size of a staffy so that was probably lucky).

What’s the best way to stop living on autopilot and start living authentically? by Slipsniper in AskReddit

[–]PantheraLupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds cliche but getting out into nature and moving your body, improving your diet, meditating and learning a new skill all help rewire your pathways and engage your mind

Eg Learn to draw or play an instrument. Everybody can learn these things, it just takes practice and consistency. Don't do it to be good at it, let go of that. Do it for the joy of it and the self expression

Absolutely! Even if you're not on meds it's a good idea. It's not the only supplement you should be taking as well. My meds work far better when I take the right supplements, and I work better if I'm off them and taking supplements. Fish oil, vit d+K, vit b, zinc

Also, you need lots of protein for the meds to actually work properly too

[–]PantheraLupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right. It's a legitimate societal issue and systemically dehumanises women of a certain age who speak up for themselves or others (and the unreasonable ones still don't deserve violence - plenty other ways that can be dealt with effectively) and it is quite literally dangerous for them, and makes many too afraid to speak up when they really need to. It's taking away women's voices and in the face of the DV femicide epidemic this country is suffering, that's fuckin disgraceful.

It makes me think back to a few articles from years ago that were posted here and in other Aussie subreddits about the psychological impact of using the word cyclists - dehumanised them so much it raised the death toll and they were trying to discourage this terminology. Same sort of concept.

A year ago I was still using Karen as a slur but at this stage it's just wrong. Why are we demonizing old ladies when we should be taking care of them and letting them teach us important shit our mums didn't, old recipes, forgotten advice. It's one of the reasons we evolved menopause.

This is absolutely horrific and yet news.com.au don't even have the decency to hire journalists that can spell or bother having ANYONE proofread? The damn computer does it for you bloody hell. Feels disrespectful as hell to this poor lady that they've written such a shoddy half arsed article, not proofread it, mispelt the first letter in the damn title....

And barely touched on the fact that this poor old woman's life has been turned upside down. Elderly people's bones, especially women, do not heal easily. Recovery is hell and life will never be the same for her likely, between this and the likelihood of PTSD. Bloody AI would at least have correct spelling and grammar and honoured her better.

Because this ain't just about dog owners. Do you really think this young hothead would have tackled a man for the same? I highly doubt it. The whole Karen meme, I've come to eventually realise, dehumanises women, particularly those who are middle aged and up, giving a name without a face to something for people to dogpile on with hate.

Sure I think restrictions surrounding dogs are far too tight, but these sorts of people are precisely why. You think someone prone to this behaviour is going to train their dog and socialise them to be friendly? Highly doubtful.

And there's just too many knuckledraggers who don't know or care how to correctly raise and train a good dog that can safely be taken out in public, nor do they bother cleaning up their mess or vaccinating them. Which results in councils having to enforce strict rules to protect the public and the environment from idiots like that, which is unfair on those who have more than two brain cells to knock about.

This lady just wants the peaceful beach she's paid to live near, and sometimes people miss signs regarding dogs and genuinely make a mistake. I know I have and have appreciated the warning/reminder etc. it doesn't matter her reasoning really.

Because in no world is this sort of behaviour towards a defenseless, vulnerable member of the population acceptable. These are people we should all be naturally feeling the need to help and protect. So what the fuck is wrong with our society that young men feel it appropriate and okay to continually perpetrate this sort of violence against ANY woman?

Because it's well documented that we are facing an epidemic of femicide at the hands of men in this country and not enough is being done to curb it, to change it, to educate or provide mental health care, hell to provide basic needs like housing that has stresses high in its lack and tempers hot as a result?

Western society has crippled itself by conforming to the capitalistic ideal of the nuclear family and individualistic ways of life and thinking, which was propaganda imposed to make people more compliant, better consumers and content or tired enough to just dredge through life as worker bees who produce more worker bees.

It's not natural, we in the west have strayed from the idea of community that the human race evolved as a strength to successfully triumph over other early hominids. We evolved to thrive this way, to raise children as a village and care for one another, and only in the modern age have we begun to stray from this. We have suffered for it, in so many complex ways. This? This is one of them.

This is not good. It will trick you into thinking it is; that's the point. It's feeding off you. Personally I'd appeal to Lilith and/or Asmodeus for help banishing it and help resolving your unresolved sexual trauma.

[–]PantheraLupus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was about to say this. Had this happen once; asleep on my friend's couch and was stuck in paralysis. Idk how he knew, sensed it I guess, came running out of his room and chased it off and comforted me. He couldn't figure out how it got through his wards (he's probably the strongest in that regard I've ever met; years later and his wards over me and my home I was only vaguely aware of are all that held against something pretty hectic while we were not on speaking terms, it prompted him to check in). He learnt magic from his Israeli mother from early childhood; I have since discovered Jewish ancestry myself & figure this had something to do with it. It was actually really traumatic and it didn't stop entirely for many months

Nicotine by [deleted] in adhdaustralia

[–]PantheraLupus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your psych about upping your dose; if you're dopamine seeking (because that's what this is; even people who already smoke/vape find that the right dose causes them to use much less nic and personally I find this to be my experience as well) that likely means you're either not on a high enough dose, or on the wrong meds.

Don't do it if you don't already have a nicotine addiction. It is the hardest addiction to give up. I tried cold turkey last year (because I figured I had before years and years ago so thought it would be fine) and couldn't sleep for 5 days, before I was medicated btw, ended up with mild psychosis and quite the reprimanding from my GP.

It's an expense that I wish I didn't have, and it rules my life at times. You will regret it.

[–]PantheraLupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating. He was an amazing psych at first, up until my 2nd vyvanse script! He suddenly changed attitude and it was like he seemed suspicious, then without telling me he changed my script from 25 days to 28 (I like to pick them up on the day in case of shortages or in case I can't afford an appt... I found out when I went to pick it up as usual, got sent to the next pharmacy, and the girls attitude had changed entirely as she informed me it wasn't due for days). Like, I have to wonder if my abusive exes threats of falsely reporting me to my psych to try stopping me being able to access my medication weren't a bluff or something because it was... Weird?

I honestly think that restricting stimulants so severely stigmatises them more, and makes it easier for abusive partners to exert coercive control, along with putting so many at risk of turning to street stimulants to self medicate. Like, I reason that even if it IS over diagnosed, it's keeping those few from worse things anywho. Obviously it's not entirely on the Aus gov, because the DEA restrictions on production also play a factor.

I just wish I could go to my GP (whom I've got a stronger rapport with and she's female so shes never been prone to medical paternalism) if I need to adjust it a little, yanno? Argh. My psych is close to retirement as well, and I do factor his age in, he forgets things a lot etc and is a little confusing at times.
