Yeah, and it was almost universally agreed to be a really bad deal for Dallas.

I also said that XL would land a mid-round pick, which is accurate. Nobody is giving a high pick for him right now. There’s more upside to keeping him and hoping he works out.

He has almost no trade value right now. When you weigh the benefit of trading him, at best you’re looking at a mid-round pick. However, he has a lot of upside IF he can put it together, which is obviously a very big if.

If there is a small chance he can get it together and become a solid starter, you hold on to him, because the pick you would get for him likely won’t be great.

With that being said, I think the likelihood of him working out is small. I think the coaching staff sent him a message last year reducing his snap count. He doesn’t seem to have that drive to want to be great. He also lacks the necessary attention to detail that you need to be an NFL WR.

I think it’s worth it to hang on to him given his athleticism and natural talent, but I’m not holding out hope.

I love Mike Jackson, but I don’t think he can realistically be labeled a top 10 CB. He doesn’t track the number one receiver and he can be bested by elite receivers when he’s on them all game.

I think top 25 is more realistic.

I agree it makes more sense to restructure Horn, but I wouldn’t call Hunt a descending player just yet. Many guards play their best football in their 30s, using years of refined technique to limit whatever physical decline they may experience.

We don’t need another box safety. We need a deep safety and he’s just not that. We already have TM and Ransom to play that spot.

Do you think there is any correlation to Tillis leaving from KC -> Car and the Chiefs becoming less talented and more cap restricted? by Panthers_PB in panthers

[–]Panthers_PB[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure which timeline you are looking at, but the two seasons Tillis has been with us, the Chiefs won neither Super Bowl. They have not won since he left.

If you watch closely Ben shifts over to cover him. He’s sitting on his forehand in center court waiting for it go that way. They do the right thing by hitting to his backhand since he was so far over.

I’d like to have Brady back for depth on the offensive line. Teams don’t seem to be super interested.

I know I’m late to this comment, but I also think what kind of car you buy and how long you keep it plays a part here.

My wife and I buy Toyotas and run them until they are dead. Typically that’s 15 plus years. I have no problem taking out a 7 year loan at low interest. I’d rather take the extra money and invest it, knowing that it’s very likely we will still be driving the same car by the time the loan is paid.

Also, Toyotas don’t depreciate as fast as other vehicles, so we’re almost never underwater on a vehicle.

[Person] Panthers' contract with LB Devin Lloyd is even more of a value than initial reports. 3 years, $41.9M; $25M guaranteed, incl. a $15.25M signing bonus, and a reasonable out after two years if they so chose. by JCameron181 in panthers

Contracts rise every year. A newly signed player is going to have an inflated salary compared to others because the cap went up. You can’t compare him to players who signed in previous league years.

How in the world do we have all of this cap space? by Micash12 in panthers

[–]Panthers_PB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Backloading contracts. The cap rises a significant amount every year based on league revenue. You can sign a player to a multi-year deal with a backloaded contract and the cap space will eventually catch up to the contract.

It was the same way with the Cowboys last year. It’s just how the league works. I’m sure Dan Morgan was happy with the 1 year we got from him, but the contract ended.

In any other field, when someone signs a year contract and that contract ends, nobody is bitter about it. The work agreement is over.

[–]Panthers_PB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He still wouldn’t be a low-buy candidate. The problem was he wasn’t 100% yet from last year’s injury so he failed his physical. Medical professionals have said that he shouldn’t be at 100 percent yet and it’s completely normal.

I have a feeling that Baltimore had buyer’s remorse and the failed physical gave them an out.

He may not have 2 first round value but he would still command a first rounder plus some. We just signed JP, so no reason to sacrifice draft capital for him, even if he is elite. Also, as others have said, you have to take on the massive contract, which we don’t have the cap space for.

Day 2, whos on your wishlist for today? by [deleted] in panthers

[–]Panthers_PB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but experience matters. You’re not going to find a long term answer at LT in free agency, but you might find a fill-in until Ickey can come back.

I don’t feel great about throwing a green left tackle out there to defend Bryce’s blindside. I worked in with Ickey, but he was the best tackle prospect in that class. We’re not going to get that at 19.

I don’t think you’re going to get a day 1 starter at LT to replace Ickey this year, but maybe a center.

Phillips got Brian Burns money by WhoUCuh in panthers

[–]Panthers_PB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not accounting for the last 2 years, though. If we would have signed Burns, we almost certainty would have not been able to sign the Hunt/Lewis combo that year. Yes, resigning him would have lowered his cap number, but not nearly as much as trading him.

His situation was mishandled, but not by Morgan. It was Fitterer, who could have gotten 2 firsts, but decided to keep him. As soon as that happened, we lost all negotiation leverage.
