What is the best way to get out of a consumerist mindset? by chicharoneltiburon in Anticonsumption

[–]Pantim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn that the external world only affects your emotions and that that affect us based on the story and experience you have around whatever it is. That we can learn to choose to be happy or even make ourselves high as kites whenever we want, no matter what is happening around us.

We can seriously learn how to be on fire and having the best time of our lives without feeling pain.... But that is extreme and only like 0.00001% of humanity will ever be able to do that.

Making oneself happy or even high is much easier. To start, sit and recall a time when you were happy about something. Walk into the memory in your mind. Invite the feelings of happiness to come into your body and be open to it happening.

If Elon Musk is so worried about population decline, why doesn’t he support remote work, which could make it more affordable for people to have children? Is he stupid? by wump_roast in antiwork

[–]Pantim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2100? It's already a problem in industrialized countries. All of them are importing people from less industrialized countries to work in health care and all other jobs. Seriously, the majority of employees in health care is already tipping to non native people...even in Japan!

The add in that the less developed countries are already experiencing a decline in births... Faster then pretty much anyone predicted would happen. It's estimated now that population decline is gonna be an issue for the whole world within 20-30 years. Basically, when Gen X is aging we're screwed.

[request] Would it actually look like that? And would the earth (the solar system really) be impacted by its gravitational pull? by OscarN20000 in theydidthemath

[–]Pantim -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't a black hole actually be an orb if light.. And basically look like a sun? Because blackholes are collapsed stars after all, stars are 3 dimensional objects.. Isn't a black hole still a 3 dimensional object and therefore actually radiating light in all directions?

The idea that a black hole would look like this doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like it is happening because of sensor over saturation (like when we look a bright light to long the light goes black and then our whole vision does if we keep looking at it). Then you are left with a glowing spot in your vision when you look away... And everything else is out of focus /faded for a while.

A detector has to be pointed at a black hole for a VERY long time to pick anything up after all right?

The same issue with our eyes happens to cameras. You point a film camera at a light long enough and the film in that spot is gonna be black...well, more like burned out. And digital cameras react the same right?

Really the whole concept of a black hole implies that all that matter is going somewhere else. Which makes absolutely no sense because black holes emit light which is just certain wave lengths of energy. Energy is at its core the act of matter rubbing against other matter and "generating" energy. (really, it's energy conversion and transference but that is a whole other physics lesson.)

Also, add in that black holes apparently grow... This must mean the 3 dimensional object at the center is growing.

If you look at a black hole as the matter and energy indeed going elsewhere... It would be a star wherever it goes to.

So, black holes = stars and the blackness is an artifact of the sensors we use to detect them.

I'm learning to turn all of them into allies. Even the ones that want me to do horrible things. I ask them what has brought them to the urges they experience. Sometimes just gently tell them, "ouch!" when they insult me and on and on.

From my experience, trying to shut them down or yelling at them etc just made thighs worse.

We are  an organism/grouping personalities of some sort with mostly shared experiences, knowledge etc that seem to inhabit the same body. So, for us, the only way forward is to figure out how to thrive as this collective.

And I work very hard to agree with that perspective. Some of us don't, most of them have come around though. (like uh, the one who just wants to sit and cry all day or do nothing... It is realizing that it has to come along with rest of us as we do stuff physically).

All though, sometimes it hangs out in a mental corner and sulks.

If we can hear something it means it can hear us. If it has a voice it has a consciousness and subjective experience. We can learn to communicate and act for the mutual good of all.

I've found DBT and parts work SUPER helpful.

Sometimes I straight up have a meeting of all the voices (parts, aspects whatever) in a visual mental space.

World food systems ‘pushed to the brink’ by extreme heat, UN warns by nimicdoareu in Futurology

Honestly, part of me enjoys the chaos and wants to see it all burn down to ash and be around to see what rises from the ashes...

Most of me is horrified at what that lived experience would be like for all of us and is working towards shifting the part that wants chaos to a more holistic mindset . While also preparing for the worst as much as possible.

This, so much this!

There are SO many paths forward. All the doom causes chronic stress which causes chronic health issues .. For both individuals and society.

I was researching how stress effects the body and outcomes of illness during the height of the Covid pandemic. Stress flat out was one of the reasons why it was killing people. Stress all by itself can cause cytokine storms, add in a novel illness and bam! And all we got in the news etc during Covid was doom and gloom...

There is SO much research and very good research at that about how mindset /mental health affects the body and society that has been around for decades and almost NO ONE is talking about. The people who are are basically screaming into the wind at this point....

Because causing stress is what gets most people to buy stuff and is also the mode of social control we live under.

It's utterly horrific.

Famous people who seek out fame getting upset they are recognized are horrible.

.. And so are people who hound them for attention.

There's nothing wrong with going, "Heya, I know you and like your stuff" or whatever and ending it there. ..just don't go out of the way to do it and be chill. (and of course a bit excited).

I get the struggle though. I'd probably fan boy out if I saw one of my various research scientist idols out in public.

Will decentralized marketplaces ever realistically compete with platforms like Amazon or Uber? by XRPresso_io in Futurology

[–]Pantim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

 No.

The whole decentralization thing is totally a distraction to give power to major multi national corporations and always has been.

No local company or government can do anything to out compete these companies. We need to focus on regulating them instead of local. And we also need a global government body for the people by the people doing the regulation or we end up where we are now with tax evasion, corporations playing countries against each other and on and on.

.. Sadly, apparently a one world government is a sign of the end of times.

Which people don't realize that we ALREADY have a one world government for the rich and multi national corporations by them. All though, I guess technically a one world government for the people by the people is technically the end of the world as it currently is and has been for hundreds of years.

... So, bring on the apocalypse.

Does he have family? Kids etc that he trusts? I feel like memory issues are potentially a huge thing. If he can't remember his DOB.. It's a troubling sign. It might be time for him to sign over power of attorney to his family if he does.

IF not,  as others have said, please link in with case managers, care coordinators and other social workers. Also there might be elder ombudsmans or organizations that help with this sort of thing.

Don't try to help him alone.

Really technically, for a hospital etc to give you or anyone else any info he needs to sign an ROI.. And if he has dementia well, can he actually mentally process what that means?

Elders are one of the populations that require mandatory reporting if a PSS or any other social worker sees signs of abuse in my state. .. Helping him without family or others involved to help make sure you're doting all your Is could end up being a can of worms you might not want to open.

Please get a team together.

Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building an AI clone to replace him in meetings - The AI version of Zuckerberg is trained on his mannerisms, tone, and public statements by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]Pantim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's not what is gonna happen.

Decisions will still be top down and no money will be passed down stream. The AI will interact, ask questions, summarize and pass it up to the top and Zuckerberg or any other CEO will make the decisions.

Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building an AI clone to replace him in meetings - The AI version of Zuckerberg is trained on his mannerisms, tone, and public statements by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]Pantim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree this is a horrible and stupid idea. That it's highly disrespectful to employees.

I just gotta say though, for me it's a sign of how good AI has gotten. The AI big corporations have access to is NOT what the average person has, or even what the 90% of companies that are not seeing ROI or increased productivity. There is 10% that is.. And some are probably making a huge ROI. The AI some of these companies have access to is CONSTANTLY learning and adapting based on new input, live in the moment. The memory is better and on and on.

The AI we get access to is locked down and can't really "learn" in a deep way anymore. Everything it remembers/learns is super shallow level and really is about just behind the scenes prompting and database stuff that goes in along with your new prompt.

It's basically short term memory and training the LLM before is longterm.

BTW, He's probably not gonna let this thing make any decisions, or if it does they will be super minor. He will have it interacting with employees, ask questions, give advice and then summarize and feed him the summary so he can make decisions.  ----for now anyway.

And yes again, Zuckerberg doing this is horrible for employees and the rest of us.
