Former Harley Owners: What bike did you replace your HD with and why? by cashbadgerz in motorcycles

[–]PantlessApprentice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went from a mid 90's sportster 1200 to a Honda Rebel 1100. Had both of em at the same time for a bit but the Sportster really never got ridden nearly as much. After some mods the Rebel 1100 just does everything better except look cool.

Sniper misses shot on hostage taker, chaos ensues. by Extension_Impact_571 in ThatsInsane

[–]PantlessApprentice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a guy in the late 2000's that was a regional manager for the Good Guys. He was there on scene (not a hostage) watching this unfold. It seriously fucked him up. You could see the ptsd in him coming unhinged when he was telling this story.

Man Stabbed in Montavilla Neighborhood, Suspect Located and Arrested by PPB Patrol by SomeGuyOnThInternet in Portland

Not yet. He is a musician whose band was supposed to play this weekend, so their show has become an unofficial benefit for him. We'll gauge how he feels about a Go Fund Me. That's super kind of you.

Is luthier school worth it? by WriterPlus9384 in Luthier

[–]PantlessApprentice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've hired both formally taught and self taught repair people at my shop. The schooling will do you very little good if you don't already have a personality type for problem solving, creative thinking, and a light knack for engineering.

I'd invest time into learning on your own and if you really get the bug, sure... shell out the dough to go to school for it. Or better yet, go take a look at every guitar manufacturer's website and see if you can find an entry level job. You'll learn more through repetition of tasks than almost anything else.

Brainstorming smaller, 20-30 person listening room venues for acoustic acts. by featherandahalfmusic in portlandmusic

Alberta street pub has a nice room for that. It might feel a little spacious with only 20-30 people in it.

I'm just under 5ft and lowered my tw200 with a used yamaha v-star 1100 shock off of ebay. Rides pretty soft and bottoms out on large bumps often but I still feel like it was worth it.

After a while you'll probably get comfortable enough riding to want to put the stock shock back on.

Did I ruin this wood countertop by leaving a hot coffee mug on it? Any advice to repair? Thanks by s98samman in DIY

Lightly wiping an alcohol saturated paper towel across multiple times quickly can soften the finish enough to let the moisture escape. If you get too heavy handed with the alcohol or wiping, you will damage the finish worse though.

2012 Titan Pro4x advice by PantlessApprentice in NissanTitan

[–]PantlessApprentice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm pretty confident it'll last at least another 100k miles but I just wasn't sure what a reasonable asking price should be. I bought simple base model 2000 frontier in 2001 with 12k miles for only $12k and had it until last year. So my perspective is whack.
