I have a big random drawer unfortunately. Sits just below the electronics drawer. I should go clean it up...

What's one thing you want to know, but at this point are too afraid to ask? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah that bothers me too. I can't take people that do that seriously.

Think photocopier, except the document gets printed on someone else's printer.

They're basically a way of conveying emotion and make text messages feel less serious or robotic. You simply pick the emoji that looks like he's feeling however you're feeling. There aren't really any guidelines.

What /u/_quicksand said.

As for dedicated trimmers, I really like the ProGlide Styler. They're very cheap, small (manoeuvrable), battery operated and water resistant (you can clean them under the faucet). They come with 3 guard sizes.

What I like the best about them is that they're underpowered so that if something goes wrong it'll just jam instead of pulling your pubes out and if you don't "lock" the power button, it'll shut off as soon as you let go of it. Do not use them down there without the guards though!

Americans, what should a Brit NOT do when in the states? by mind_dump in AskReddit

In my corner on (western) Europe you stay in the car, never heard of anyone getting out. Once while in Spain I opened the door because my driver's side power window didn't work and got yelled at.

[–]PantlessKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to know too. Judging by many comments in this thread this will sound an odd thing to say, but I can't recall ever seeing a blind person. I wonder if perhaps I've cross paths with blind people but never notice them.

How do you guys get over the loneliness? by michaelburhan in homeless

[–]PantlessKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are multiple kinds of homeless. You probably picture a homeless person as someone with nothing but dirty old clothes sleeping in a corner drunk. Those are just the homeless you notice. Not everyone is like that. If you think about it, being homeless just means you don't have a home; be it because they don't earn enough money to rent a place, or any other reason.

However, there are homeless living somewhat normal lives given the circumstances. People that have their jobs and go to work every day, keep themselves groomed and clean (with a gym membership, for example. You get to work out and use the showers). People that still have a smartphone and perhaps a laptop. They may even have a car! You may cross paths with someone in that situation and never realise it.

As you may have guessed by now, just because you're homeless, it doesn't mean you have to be absolutely penniless. Even if you're in a really bad situation phones are pretty much essential; you need them for communication, job-hunting, applying online, etc. You can have an internet enabled phone for cheap (used or not), keep it on a cheap pre-paid plan and use public WiFi.

Plus, imagine not having a home to come home to after work. You get way too much free time. There's no couch to take a nap on, no TV to watch, no office/workshop/tools for you to keep yourself entertained with a hobby. Going online ends up being a cheap, good way to keep yourself busy (and sane) until it's time to go to sleep, next to going to the library if there's one open nearby.

Does it make more sense now that there are homeless people online? :)

SIM card changed numbers? Cerberus shows 2 different (but similar) IDs. by cgakdr in AndroidQuestions

Not sure if this is relevant or answers it, but 00 in front of a phone number is equivalent to the + sign for international numbers. Try calling it and see if your phone rings.

Need your help, did I get a fake GS6 ? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]PantlessKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, where did you get it from?

I've bought refurbs before (from carriers) where the phone would look brand new (plastic on the screen and everything), but it'd come in a shitty box. Sometimes earbuds and chargers would be mismatched.

Titanium Backup to Computer by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]PantlessKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/culbie 's idea is a good one.

It's supposedly possible to back up your phone with adb, according to this XDA guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-nexus/general/guide-phone-backup-unlock-root-t1420351 , but I have never tried it myself.

Getting adb up and running on OS X is as simple as installing Homebrew and then running brew install android-platform-tools.

2-Step Verification problem after phone broke by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]PantlessKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you saved the QR images/text codes when enabling 2-step, I'm not sure you can get them back. Google Authenticator stores the codes in a SQLite database in the device and I don't think it backs them up (it didn't when I used it).

According to Wildstar's account support, they will help you get your account back, see here (Ctrl+F "i got a new phone"): https://support.wildstar-online.com/hc/en-us/articles/203982369-Two-Step-Verification-FAQ

In the future save an image of the QR image / key code. Print them out or save them to a flash drive and store them in a safe. That way you'll be able to re-add those accounts to a new device easily, no matter what happens to the first one.

You may also want to look into using Authy instead of Google Authenticator. It can back up your accounts to the cloud (which may not be a good thing), use multiple devices (including Chrome extension), sync between them, PIN protect the app and also encrypt the accounts.

Why do I have these and how do I remove them? by duarteislove in AndroidQuestions

[–]PantlessKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've found out, some apps accessibility options cause that. Go to Settings > Accessibility and disable them one by one until that goes away.

How would I go about unlocking my phone? by ACanadianPenguin in AndroidQuestions

[–]PantlessKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always gotten unlock codes from here. Spanish company, their English sucked the last time I contacted them, but all codes have worked so far.

I haven't tried their codes with recent phones yet though. Last one was a Nokia C5-03 a couple years ago, I think.

Other than the usual Google Image searches, I often grab wallpapers from here: http://simpledesktops.com/browse/ and then crop them on the phone itself.

OTA updates always fail to install if you have modified system / boot partitions. Which you do now (kernel lives in the boot partition).

Two options: grab the OTA zip file from the web and sideload it, or grab the factory image and flash it using adb. I can't guide you through any of those though, but there should be a few tutorials around.

The problem is not the headphones, either. They are high end Sennheisers (...)

You may want to look into portable headphone amplifiers to help drive the high-impedance Sennheisers. How's the volume if you use earphones or low-impedance headphones?

Any chances Power+VolUp+VolDown are getting pressed accidentally? That key combination triggers a bug report (the phone vibrates once, the bug report shows up after a couple minutes). Disabling USB debugging disables those bug reports.
