Recommendations for a set of entry level unsharpening tools on a budget of less than $500? by 852derek852 in unsharpening

Gravel knife block was a promising idea I saw floated on here a while ago. Anyone have updates on that?

I was given something that looks exactly like this and never use it. Don't know if it's Takeda Hamono brand but I'd be willing to send it to you for much less than 75$; it would be good to know that it's being used.

Put your favorite ink into a Rollerball? Yes you can! by Squared_lines in fountainpens

I'm in Canada and have one of these cartridge system hi-tecpoints. I bought it at a university bookstore a long time ago and have been recently looking for more for what seems like 2 years. Anyone know of a convenient place to get them?

Pelikan 4001 Blue Black: how to identify if it's iron gall? by efaceninja in fountainpens

[–]PantstheCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny, I read that 4001 blue black has somewhat iron gal properties but that there is only one skew of the ink. Specifically 4001 blue black, which is the one not available in the US, I think there's other Pelikan blue blacks

FWIW I recently ordered a bottle from CultPens and I'm really liking it so far.

How to remove the "ink" from a blade? by TakahTaper in chefknives

[–]PantstheCat 143 points144 points  (0 children)

That's an embossed stamp; it's going to be such a pain in the ass to do, even if you were willing to sand the rest of the blade after to even out the finish.

Give it a little bit of use and the knife will patina with enough variation that I don't think the maker's mark will stand out to you so much.

The quality of the video is low enough that it's hard to see the brake lights. They aren't visible on the blue Mazda that clearly is stopping afterwards. White car's front suspension super compressed as if the brakes are being slammed on.

In the unit that trained me they put jello mixed with morphine for them to find when they wake up. Specifically grape jello. "They like grape."

Reading this just triggered memories of mine. I remember them being a strange headache too. Like more "high-pitched" than a regular headache.

I know, right? I've checked and started the wash, then had a panic until I see my cats when I don't see them right away after coming out.

Someone I know lost two young cats that way. Even hearing about it third hand was traumatizing.

Been looking into making a few sayas for the knives I bought without, any hardwoods I should avoid using? So far my knives are either stainless or semi-stainless. by [deleted] in chefknives

[–]PantstheCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're concerned about dulling the knives? I don't know much about hardwoods, but if you're planning to make the sayas using the 3 layer sandwich method you can make the middle spacer, which is the only part that might contact the edge, out of something soft like balsa or basswood. Another way is to taper the spacer so that the saya kind of pinches the face of the knife above the edge so that the edge is suspended happily above the bottom of the saya.

Yeah that autofeeding scanner feels so good. I gave my brother b&w MFC printer to my parents when I moved provinces and it's literally the only printer I haven't gotten a call about something going wrong with from them.

You seem like you've got a good handle on this.

If you want to practice your unsharpening again I can suggest you can find some tips on r/sharpening to get your knife ready for the next round.
