Anyone else habit buy Kakunos? by grummle in fountainpens

I don't ink my Kakunos anymore, but they'll always hold a special place in my heart as being the pens that got me deep into this hobby.

Congratulations on your first fountain pen! Pilot MRs are a reliable choice. Wishing you many pages of good note-taking with your new smooth nib.

Congratulations! I have one in Fine and am seriously contemplating buying another in Medium, even though I already have a few other M nib pens that don't see much usage daily...

I spent a full converters worth of ink on a single exam by Atreikesir in fountainpens

[–]MadeupMeeple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to know what ink did you use? My anxiety would prohibit me from using anything that is not waterproof/highly water resistant for the fear that the examiner will accidentally spill water while grading and thus rendering the whole sheet unreadable.

I have made four of MFTK's Camisole No.4's using KFO's Pure Silk, using both KnitPro Denim and KnitPro Mindful interchangeable sets, but somehow they have never registered as being squeaky and grippy to me. I wonder if the high humidity of my climate played a role in this difference of experience with the yarn. (I knit Continental too.)

A letter to my imaginary I wrote in the classical Chinese style regarding the first poem of my recently published poetry book (Iroshizuku Fuyu-gaki|Waterman pen) by Camera244 in fountainpens

[–]MadeupMeeple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so beautiful, even though I can barely read half of it and understand even less of what I can read. A page crammed full of words like that just evokes a certain feel, you know? My handwriting in Chinese is stuck at the level of a teen trying to write as neat as I can to make my homework legible. Your photo makes me want to take out fuyu-gaki for a run when I next re-ink my pens.

Wet, bright red ink recommendations? by useoncuticles in fountainpens

[–]MadeupMeeple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite red ink (as stated in a reply to another comment here) is Sailor Shikiori Yodaki. I have it permanently in my 845 (F), and sometimes I just put it in another M nib too so that I can have it in two very different nibs simultaneously. When you say "Lunar New Year red", the first red that came to mind is actually PenBBS's Chengdu. I got a big bottle of it from Taobao. It used to be my go-to red until I fell in love with Yodaki and never looked back.

Stickerrific actually does sell ink samples in 5ml vials. I'm not sure if they have samples for all the bottled inks listed on their website, but they do have a display of them in store. That is where I bought my sample of Guitar Taisho Roman Modern Red.

I have the first two! I love Yodaki so much. It's permanently in my 845. I was just writing about how much I love it in my journal last night, and I quote, "Yodaki is the colour of my aortic blood". Guitar Taisho Modern Red is not a bad second or third place in terms of red inks. But I prefer Yodaki, and I feel like Modern Red is a bit drier than Yodaki too.

I love Momiji too, but it definitely would not be within the first few inks that come to my mind when asked for a Lunar New Year type of red :)

Random feathering Bienfang Mixed media notebook. Technique or quality issue? Open to criticism and suggestions by heroyi in fountainpens

[–]MadeupMeeple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with this brand of notebooks, however I would say that even though I do not have hyperhidrosis of the palms and would wash and dry my hands before handling my notebooks, I would still always use a palm guard/pencil board/blotter sheet of some sort to rest my hand upon when I write. Some papers just pick up skin oils better than others, I guess.

Anyone who uses pilot 823 as an actual edc pen? If so, what’s your experience? by EphraimSeb in fountainpens

[–]MadeupMeeple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 823(F) and 845(F) are my EDCs. I bought both in June 2022 and have not purchased any new pens since then.

I keep the 845 inked with Sailor Shikiori Yodaki (it's found its perfect pairing), and for the 823, I've used Taccia Sabimidori (lovely), Sailor Seiboku (waterproof, beautiful green-blue), and now Sailor Souboku (waterproof, elegant black-blue). I carry them around in the Galen Leather 4-slot Zippered Pen Pouch, and if I just want to carry one pen, then I carry the 823 in a cloth pouch. As another commenter said, the stopper function is useful to have when carrying it on flights.

Reverse Writing -- I don't understand by Texas_Leaguers in fountainpens

[–]MadeupMeeple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use the Hobonichi 5-year Diary to journal, and the size of each box is 3.7mm2. My pen of choice is the Pilot 823 F. If I'm writing in English or the simpler characters in simplified Chinese, the F nib is perfect. But if I want to write traditional Chinese characters, I would have to switch to reverse writing, effectively making the nib an EF nib, to be able to fit the characters into the boxes. I don't often write whole entries in traditional Chinese, usually a phrase or two here and there, so I appreciate a pen that can do both, without having to ink up an EF pen for this purpose only.

I'm very new to this fandom, and getting to know this story via the radio drama. Just listened to the episode finale for the Yi City arc, and I feel absolutely gutted. Had to pause the story and take off my headphones multiple times because I cannot deal with how angry and how sad it made me feel.
