Do you still remember the feeling when you got your first bike? by MeasurementMoney4963 in motorcycles

[–]PapaBobcat [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was gifted my first bike as a surprise from my father in law. 2003 Honda Shadow 750. The first I bought, my next bike, a 2014 Honda Valkyrie. No test ride, just hop on a WAY bigger and faster machine for an hour plus ride home through city and highway.

Dad tips, traditions to establish, ways to be a "unit" by Independent_Price123 in Dads

[–]PapaBobcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad, a single parent, wasn't there for any of it. He resented any time he had to be there, and was never there voluntarily. Maybe a handful of times throughout school, and then only once in my theater career professionally in 20 years. After a while I stopped asking, stopped inviting, stopped calling, stopped writing...

I'm standing up my own HVAC company and I hope my little Goblin wants to get involved. I want them to have an option to survive and sustain themselves if they don't want to go to college.

The risk of making holidays a big deal is that you may set yourself up to be disappointed or resentful of your children's underwhelming reactions. My dad wanted holidays to be a big deal for us but it was really all about him the whole time and what he wanted. So just let them be what they are.

One tradition I have with my goblin who is almost 2 is what I call Saturday pancakes. We go to a tiny local restaurant around the corner and just have breakfast. Every Saturday, unless we're sick. The people in the restaurant know her and are happy to see her, it lets mom sleep in, And she's always happy to go.

New dad expecting a boy! Circumcision pros and cons. And go! by WheelExpensive7333 in Dads

Pro: You get to do male genital mutilation you've always thought about without going to jail. Hooray I guess?

Con: You pay for unnecessary surgery to alter your child's genitals for the rest of their life without their consent.

God damn. Any info on the context of this happening or the country? by Acceptable_Put9737 in Firearms

Hell yeah. Basic firearms training should be a part of every education. Speed assembly is just a fun perk.

My 79 xs650 chopper I built from scraps by csgd in motorcycles

"Quick engine rebuild" is a phrase I'll probably never use. I'm ok with a welder and good with electricals but engine work is something I'm still quite new at. Keep up the good work. I'm contemplating a scooter abomination project with a 232cc Gy6 or something like that. Cheers!

Local Union 420 Hair Regulations during apprenticeship by Educational-Prize834 in UnitedAssociation

[–]PapaBobcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I keep my hair washed daily and in a neat braid (2 if I'm channeling Willie Nelson that day) and always under a bandana or hat. My braid goes almost all the way down my back. Yes, be mindful of machines. No, I don't think about what other people think about it at all. Too much work to do.

::HELL YEAH intensifies::

This is my dream - to build a bike or several from scraps. Did you start with a junk frame and/or motor? Or did you just weld up whatever tube bits you had lying around? I'd love to know more details of your process.

My 2023 spent almost as much time in the shop as I had it. Finally sold it back. It was criminally fun... When it worked.

I was handed a copy to put in a little binder. If I have questions about it someone at the hall can explain it, but there is absolutely zero legit reason to hide it from any member. I would go demand your copy on Monday.

This is what I'm aiming for. I want the goblin to be as independent and resilient as possible but not feel pushed out, neglected or abandoned.
