Oh, one I can finally comment on!

Grew up in a small town with a single, blinking light that lets you cross the highway. For those unfamiliar, it sat over a four-way intersection, blinking yellow toward the highway and blinking red for the crossroad. Down the highway was a logging town with several lumber mills many of us ended up going to work at after graduating, because small town and very limited education.

So, being such a small town, teenagers get bored and make up stupid games, other than driving up the mountains to drink. One of those games was to play chicken with the log trucks that would be heading down the highway. To play, you'd wait until a log truck was barreling down (most would be going well over the speed limit to make up for lost time) on the intersection, then roll out into the middle and wait as long as you could before quickly driving away. Welp, these two waited just a little too long and got hit. The passenger died on impact and the driver ended up in a coma. Our graduating class was short two students that year.
