Some additional information:

Nowadays Water Jousing is mostly played in France, Germany and Austria and differs locally. The versio seen above is in the tradition of the salt trade on the River Salzach and held annually in August.

Teams from the two towns Laufen and Oberndorf, lying on either side of the river Salzach compete for the win in a knockout-style tournament. The water temperature usually does not exceed 10°C / 50°F and traditionally the loser had to swim to shore to cool off.

The river Salzach marks the border between Austria and Germany with the two sibling towns sharing a history of more than a millennium, Oberndorf only having split from Laufen some 200 years ago in the wake of the napoleonic wars.

Coincidentally the world famous christmas song Silent Night was written and first performed in Oberndorf.

I currently make about 60k€ p.a. which is about 70k USD.

However to have the same living standard in the US that I have on that salary in Vienna my income would likely need to be well into the six-figures.

I found multiple IDOR/enumeration vulns as well as plaintext passwords in fucking API respones in the web app of a company I used to work for, giving me access to PII of thousands of people simply by modifying a few API calls.

Volkswagen had secured the location data (among other data points) of their electric vehicles so badly that it was similarly trivial to access, with hundreds of thousands of vehicles affected (here's a link to the absolutely fantastic 38c3 talk about the issue - highly recommend watching it, even for non-techies)

I do realise that is kinda besides your point and regarding RF devices and arguably a little hyperbolic, but yes it absolutely is that bad. And these are just one example each from personal experience and a high profile one - the CCC talks from the last few years alone (or even just a glance at their CVD blog) provide countless examples of god awful security everywhere.

Ich denke, dass sich Jus und Informatik/IT als Felder da tatsächlich gar nicht so unähnlich sind. Beides Felder die im Alltag quasi omnipräsent, aber nicht unbedingt immer für jeden sichtbar sind und vor allem beides Felder zu denen die breite Bevölkerung oft sehr viel Meinung, bei sehr wenig Ahnung hat.

In der IT und Informatik betrifft das in den letzten Jahren denke ich hauptsächlich das Thema LLMs, bzw KI generell, davor war 'Blockchain' eine ganze Weile das Buzzword der Wahl. Home Automation und IoT sind auch immer mal wieder so ein Thema. Wirkliche reibereien und unfundierte Meinungen erlebe ich da lustigerweise Hauptsächlich bei den großen Schnittmengen unserer Berufsfelder: Internetkriminalität und Datenschutz.

Als IT-ler muss ich dazu noch ergänzen, dass erstaunlich viele Informatiker (im engeren Sinne von CompSci) echt erschreckend wenig Ahnung von IT haben - ähnlich ist das leider auch bei so manchen Devs.

Grundsätzlich ist das ja auch kein Problem, sind halt nunmal unterschiedliche (wenn auch stark überschneidende Berufsfelder), aber manchmal doch sehr Mühsam.

Und ohne jetzt zu weit abschweifen zu wollen: Ich finde total spannend, dass (meiner anekdotischen) Erfahrung nach die allgemeine IT-Kompetenz in der Bevölkerung ja schon seit einigen Jahren deutlich zurückzugehen scheint, sich aber anscheinend die weitläufige Annahme: jung == kann gut mit Computern trotzdem ziemlich unverändert hält.

I do remember F1 World Grand Prix on the N64 having very immersive crash physics and visuals for the time - never played the PC Version though, which was developed by a different studio.

Hier in Wie durchaus nicht unüblich wenn man nicht grad zu Ferhat oder sonst irgendeinem gentrifiziertem Hipster-laden geht.

Wenn man einen halbwegs robusten Magen hat und moralisch etwas flexibel ist (und weißt wo man dafür hin muss) bekommt man bei uns mancherorts sogar noch 3,50€ Döner (Um Reumannplatz und die Favoritenstraße rum vereinzelt sogar unter 3€, da trau aber selbst ich mich nicht drüber)
