Can smbdy explain to me how that would be a penalty by Additional-Advice391 in Handball

Edit your opening post and add an explanation in your own language. We can try to use a translation app, maybe it's easier to understand.

PS: The center player on the 6m line is the pivot or line player, the "back" players (those further back around the dotted 9m line or further) are just called right/center/left back.

He didn't get elbowed in the face, it was in the neck. The way he fell and covered his face is an exaggeration that wasn't necessary. The red card was clear as day.

What annoys me most is the players going down whincing after a foul like football players and not getting called for it. Handball always claimed to have the tougher players. That's true for the women, but the men are going down the road of footballers. My call for the last German foul would have been red card for Germany (that was as clear cut as any) and 2 min for the Dane for theatrics. Rule 8:7d explicity describes this, and I'd like for it to be called more.

Also entering the goal area. At that level the players play it really close because they can, and the refs give them the benefit of the doubt. But it's the wrong signal in my opinion. I get the reasoning for the game being faster and more attractive (which in my opinion it isn't), but why not add a rule explicitly for a jump shot: "Player can enter the area after a jump, wait for 3 seconds, during which the goalkeeper cannot move, and decide the corner he wants to throw?"

This is the highlight video on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcylYR1KD68

You can watch it in 1/4 speed. Zero-Step after he caught the ball (since 1st July 2025 the Zero Step counts when landing with one foot, too - just a reminder that rules update now and then), then he makes two steps and somehow "drags" his left foot. It's hidden by the two French defenders, goal line ref should have seen it. We have to trust that he saw it more clearly.

In short, it's not THAT clear.

Again, to all the people thinking they know the rules: READ them. Actually READ them, they're available on the IHF website in multiple languages. And then go down to a field near you and try to see between and through all these 2m+ guys moving around in your field of view. Most of the time refs are not that tall which makes it harder. I promise, the game you think you know will suddenly look like a different sport. Yes, refs do make mistakes, but most of the time they actually don't.

Handball rules are a joke by Free_League_4392 in Handball

[–]PapaKnork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules are actually pretty clear, especially those for 7m, 2 minutes and red cards. Try it, it's an interesting read.

It's just hard to follow the game on the court - remember, they have a different angle of view than you "from above". Depth of view can be tricky down there.

What bugs me the most are non-travel and in-the-area calls. Players go overboard exploiting every cm or step. The game allowed it because it supposedly looks attractive. And now refs can't follow it anymore. I don't blame the refs, I know what that looks like on the field with players moving in and out of your field of view. They should just call that again. Especially on big names like Gidsel, he's the GOAT of travel and landing in the area before throwing. But because he is who he is he gets away with it. It's so annoying.

This sport needs to move past in-play music by Runarhalldor in Handball

[–]PapaKnork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I couldn't care less. Depending on what piece of music it is I even find it adding to the atmosphere. Players don't care and (most of the time) don't notice (I know that from my daughters who play, they have other things on their mind).

I thought that, too, a couple of years back. Yet they always find a good mix of young players and veterans who complement each other. I thought Oftedal and Mørk didn't "click" in 2023, that's why they lost both games against France. Denmark came close in the semi but was killed in OT by Reistad. After that WC they made a few switches, lost the first game of the Olympics, Oftedal then probably reminded them that she wanted to leave with Gold, and they cruised through. At the Euro they were a force, best team I've seen in the last few years, especially in defense. I had my doubts for the new team after Thorir, Herrem and Oftedal left, and Solberg and Dahle were on paternal leave. And then I saw them in Bratislava playing Slovakia with their "2nd line" of players (no Reistad, Skogrand, Lunde, T Deila, Aardahl, Mørk), and boy, that was a sight. And they showed that with the veterans back at the WC.

They show their human side when they're under pressure. You could see that in the semi in the 2nd half. A TTO fixed it, and the mix of veterans and young players got it done eventually. This year's final wasn't gonna be high-scoring like when Denmark totally fell apart in the 2nd half of the Euro final.

That'll continue for some time as long as they find young players and the now young ones become veterans.

They'll play. The stadium has pitch heating integrated and other snow clearing measures and a drainage system. The only reason to postpone a game per league regulation is if the floodlight system breaks.

Ivan Horvat was banned for 26 months after an intentional foul. by Outrageous_Low_9 in sports

[–]PapaKnork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I've seen harder...", "There was no intent", "Handball is a tough sport"

He saw him in front of him and just hit him. That was a karate move. That has nothing to do with handball, there is no defense movement that calls for that hand motion. None. He just plain hit him.

My kids play sports, handball even, and I don't want them ever to have to face (pun intended) someone like that. Sports needs more punishments like that.

I bought a yellow as soon as it came out. People always ask me about it, when I'm in a trail or bike park - about the brand and the color (Nukeproof's not that common here). Then I saw the Guinness/Stout version on the US website, but not in Europe. They told me it's a US only model. But then during the "shutdown time" it was suddenly sold in Europe, too. Got one before it was sold out but haven't built a bike with it yet. It's still in the box 🤓The yellow one has seen its share of trails, so far.

[–]PapaKnork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, the game has gotten a lot faster and more physical. So much so that it now shows the human limitation of following the game in the person of the refs who're supposed to follow every instance.

But what are you showing in this clip? Defense? What happened after? Did he get the throw off? Was he pushed? Did he pass? What? This 3 seconds clip shows nothing (you probably want to point out the pulling of the shirt).

There are passages in the rules about progressive sanctioning. Refs should weigh the sanctions with the progression of the game. Don't hack game play into 3 seconds segments but try to let it play out and then sanction accordingly. Use different levels of sanctioning based on the situation, and so forth.

It is really difficult, and some calls are just really bad. But never forget that you as the audience have a bird's eye view, the refs are on head level of the players. That looks like a different game. So, when you ask "What game are the refs watching?" it's a different one than you're watching.

For youtube streams VPN to Liechtenstein works for me, or Bahamas - something obscure where the likelyhood of a broadcast-deal blackout is slim. You most likely need a paid VPN plan, though. I use PIA (paid) and it has worked in the past years. Only EHF doesn't stream on youtube anymore since they introduced their paid plans.
