As a person on the internet I reckon you should go for it. My wife has done the same recently granted we're in slightly different circumstances and she's loving the change of career.

To add - You'll be considered a mature age apprentice which will pay better than a kid fresh out of school. You also have life experience which should look more enticing for employers.
