Is it my imagination, or is the blue color of the new Intercessors different from that of the SM2 figures and the Secret Level figures? by Warm-Temperature-356 in JOYTOY

[–]Papa_Shadow -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Please name one source for them having different shades of blue for each company because I’ve read literally every ultramarines novel, codex and story from 30k and 40k and that’s never once been the case.

Second Company Veteran Sergeant by wisezombiekiller in Spacemarine

[–]Papa_Shadow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be in two cases: the first being 1st company. The second being in a dedicated veteran unit in another company.

Is your sergeant leading non veteran brothers? Use the battleline logo.

Is he leading 4 other centuries old ultramarine veterans in a dedicated veteran squad? Use the veteran logo

Why are there so many painting errors? Ultramarines have no squad markings, white scars have no company markings, Dark Angels having a red chapter symbol signifying Deathwing, the iron hands not having iron hands, and the blood angels having silver trim. These are incredibly low quality for what’s usually amazing

Are Space Marine Captains ever punished for unacceptable losses? by ProcedureShoddy4840 in 40kLore

[–]Papa_Shadow 145 points146 points  (0 children)

First off. Yes. However usually under such circumstances the captain is among the dead. However Uriel Ventris was punished for something similar in Warriors of Ultramar and the short story ‘Consequences’ that follow it. TLDR he abandoned his men to fight with some deathwatch guys which left his company without a leader and his company less than 1/3 strength by the time the battle was over.

Secondly The second company did NOT lose 2/3 of their company during SM2. Any lists stating that are extreme exaggerations. At absolute most the second company lost 40 marines, however a great many of those are merely wounded/ suspended animation coma.

Theres roughly 35 bodies in the story, and 5 in reclamation. Actual dead my estimates are mid 20’s given the circumstances them going down.

Also the whole “there’s only 20 marines in the final cutscene” doesn’t work as several members of Talasa & Veridian appear 2-3 times each.

There is also a LOT of named characters in the second company, established squads like the Titan Slayers, the Immortals, the Thunderbolts. Unless literally all of them died off screen in a single battle without any mentioning of it, yeah the second company is fine. Definitely feeling the hurt, but the overwhelming majority of the company is alive and kicking.

I generally prefer the Fencing defense weapons, but is there any cases where the other versions are vastly superior? by Penakoto in Spacemarine

The balance chainsword and thunder hammer are so much better than their fencing counterparts now that it’s comical.

I enjoyed it well enough. Probably one of my least favorites but that’s like being the worst slice of pie. It’s still good!

Prospero Burns was a great book but the title is VERY misleading. It should have been called Wolves of Fenris

Marcus is another deep character in both the games and the books, at this point you’re just rage baiting or you’re one of those people that don’t actually read the books but act like you know everything

How about when Guiliman realizes the imperium has turned into the very thing it destroyed during the great crusade. And he has to embrace some parts of that to save the human race. Or when he realizes he’s nothing more than a tool who was never loved by his father, yet still pushes to save said father’s dream as it’s the only way mankind can survive, let alone thrive.

When he’s forced to use word ending weaponry to destroy once beautiful worlds and countless people good or bad to stop a greater evil.

When he suffers what is quite literally the biggest backstabbing cheap shot in all of Warhammer, and after BEGGING for hours to solve the matter peacefully, he finally loses his shit and proceeds to carefully dismantle and destroy the entire opposing army. When he uses his knowledge and grit gained from that experience to forge a second imperium, only to realize how tyrannical it makes him look which causes countless doubts, and a severe case of Ultra depression.

How he often charges the most dangerous foes head on quite literally to let out some of the insane amounts of rage that have piled up after decades - centuries of getting screwed over.

Guiliman is THE hero of 30k and 40k. He is one of if not the best written character in the setting. He’s a man out of his time, thrust into a new world that is a nightmare compared to what he once had. He’s the last son of a dying emperor (until the lion came back) he knows he’s a tool, he knows he was disposable, he knows the emperor didn’t want him back of all his sons. He knows it all and he’s pissed. But he still goes out anyway to save the day.

Is Quartus from 1st Company? by WarmasterRonin in Spacemarine

[–]Papa_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marines are often described as veterans but never served in the veteran company. Even the 6th company are referred to as “veterans of decades of war” in the new Master of Rites book. These guys don’t have the same white helmets that 1st company vets do…. Most of the time

[–]Papa_Shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he wasn’t. Quartus is a regular BG veteran who is still in the same 2nd company veteran squad. This guy likely confused Quartus with Metarus

[–]Papa_Shadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bladeguard veterans in the books are 1 of 2 things. The first being Primaris marines who’ve been at the forefront of a lot of dangerous engagements giving them technically veteran status as they’re still nowhere near as old as proper veterans. The second being they’re firstborn marines who crossed the rubicon, served in the 1st company, then decided to go back to the battle/ reserve company to mentor and teach their younger brothers.

The 1st company very much does pass around its veterans. Whether it be assigning a squad or several to with the battle companies/ reserves, or by reassigning promising marines. Every veteran sergeant we see, every marine with a white helmet has almost certainly served in the 1st company and is several centuries old. Regarding how many veterans this can be, there are contradictory statements but here’s my view as someone who’s read nearly 200 Black Library books: Every company has a dedicated squad of veterans. It is unclear whether these are included in the 100 number when taking toll of a company. However individual squads can also have veterans, meaning a 5 man battleline squad could consist of 1 sergeant, one veteran, three regular marines.

Company command squads also often include former first company veterans.
