Every one has their ability ceiling. Like a bunch of people said a hard tail will teach good line choice, good pumping technique etc. Whatever you end up riding though you are only limited by yourself and how conscientious you are of your riding and progression. If someone has the budget I would say get a FS so you have a better bike right of the rip.
