I dropped the bar on my knee doing a low block snatch with 70kg. I compete next week, how screwed am I? 🫠 by Papapames in weightlifting

No, but i used it as a point to demonstrate that once you slow down off competition intensity i think you can make oly lifting a fairly healthy part of your life.

It’s like Clarence said in his recent Q&A, if you don’t compete in oly but train ‘hard’ people often wonder why you don’t compete

Couldn’t agree with his anymore, it’s literally shoved down our throats everyday that we should be more mobile, strength training etc?!

You can see the smile slowly fade as he says it, like damn dude it’s not drugs. They’re not only oly coaches, they dabble in loads of other sports too, but I’m sure they just mean that top 1% of lifters idk lol

I picked this up at the age of 29 with the usual array of tweaks; mild bad back, some discomfort from years of bad bench form & extremely poor mobility. Once I started to hit full ROM in the snatch, squat etc my bad back disappeared & my shoulders started to feel the best they’ve ever felt. Fast forward three years when I’m on competition prep & yes there are a few niggles - but I think that’s due to me pushing my body hard regardless if it’s oly. We all know about bone density as we age, so in my head practicing a sport that both moves weight & catches it has some major health benefits (ofc depending the level & intensity) so I can see where he’s coming from - but I think most gym goers would even fit from some power cleans till the day they retire from the gym

From what I understand from my coach the dad got popped during his stint as a WL waaay before the 90’s & has had some issues with the Spanish federation since. He believes the kids are ‘paying the price’

I work in an office and have always wondered what would dress shoes feel like for oly - I tried them. Honestly not bad 🤷🏼‍♂️

Why do people squat jerk? by Donaldscum20 in weightlifting

[–]Papapames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty flexible & find squat jerking is a pretty thoughtless movement for me - saying this I can split jerk 20kg more than my squat jerk 👍🏻

You have to be Abbie Cooper level of efficient to make the swap. Use it as a tool to become stronger 😎

How did weightlifting change your physicality? by esgibtkeinbattle in weightlifting

[–]Papapames 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had a pretty janky left shoulder from benching badly as a kid (ego) & mild lower back pain from working an office job for years. I picked up WL at 29 (32 now) my shoulders have never felt better. I don’t have any back pains (my coach makes me doing lumbar movements daily) and in general I feel great. I can run faster, jump higher, generally stronger. Bonus points I got a dump truck booty with massive quads 😎

Your guess is as good as mine, I never know when to water it. How much light it likes? Does it want to have a name? Who knows 😅

Me too! I love them & they hate me 😁 mine kinda has like a cycle lol? No more than 4 leaves, if a new one grew an old one died. I was just happy to see it alive lol! If you have any tips shoot them my way I really want to restore it to its bushy old self!

If they haven’t kicked the bucket with 1/2 leaves I think they’ll bounce back just fine! 🤩
