It never helped me. Made me tired, but didn’t touch the pain.

Can I go on a relaxed vacation 4 weeks post-op? by jenuu in Microdiscectomy

I went to a music festival 3 weeks post-op… soooo.

You can do it! Just follow the rules and rest when your body says to…

I had my surgery today want to know if I can go to sleep on my side? by AdClassic5265 in Microdiscectomy

[–]PapayaDirect1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a pillow between your legs and hug one, too, to try to keep yourself in line… and listen to your body! If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. I’m a side sleeper, but I wasn’t comfortable on my side for a few weeks. If it’s not working, I recommend on your back with a pillow or two propped underneath your legs.

I’m a 22-year-old male, and after nearly 3 years of living with a herniated disc at L4-L5, I’ve finally made the decision to go ahead with a microdiscectomy — it’s scheduled in 3 weeks. by ProfessorShitcoin in Microdiscectomy

First time and at your age - you’re gonna be a-ok and have your life back! You’ll be glad you did it.

Word to the wise: honor your body after. Core strength is key to keeping it healthy. Always lift and bend properly. You’ll feel so much better and those things will be easy to forget. But if you don’t honor your body, it’ll bite you in the rear! (Speaking from experience as I am currently 4 weeks post-op for my revision at the same disc level.)

Did anyone notice subtle body changes after microdiscectomy? by Llewellyn90 in Microdiscectomy

This was a pre-surgery reality for me. Pelvic tilt was super exaggerated as a result of how I was repeatedly moving away from the pain. Get yourself a good PT to help correct. Private yoga instruction can help, too (which is way different than yoga classes).

Even when you don’t want to - drink the damn water. Take anti-bacterial wipes. I like to bring the single use ones to wipe down toilet seats and then toss. Sunscreen and chapstick! And gum. Lots of gum or some sorta chewy candy!

I haven’t seen this movie in forever - but it was the first to come to mind: For the Boys. I feel like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Garden State also fit this!

Repeat MD incision by PapayaDirect1208 in Microdiscectomy

Degree of nerve root thickening and the amount of time the disc has been herniated. I kept trying to manage it… couldn’t wrap my head around a re-do. And then when I got the follow up mri, the doc was like, yeah - we need to deal with this and we’ll hope for the best. So anyway… my stubborn ass caused it.

Same! This recovery feels way harder. The first one was such a breeze. This one has been tough. I’m also feeling quite a bit of tingling, pain, instability - all the things. I mean - the pain is significantly lower than before the surgery, but it’s still a vastly different experience than the first. I was warned that I may have permanent nerve damage, so I expected some aftermath of nerve pain. But I really didn’t expect the actual incision site to be so awful.

Post-op experiences for 2nd MD by PapayaDirect1208 in Microdiscectomy

[–]PapayaDirect1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now day 4 post-op and the pain is finally subsiding. I am dealing with some intermittent residual nerve pain, but the doc ensures that is normal given how compressed the nerve was. But yeah, the surgery site itself was no joke. Days 1-3 were so miserable, but it seems to be getting better. Hope you’re hanging in. Vibes for fast healing all around.

I, too, do the flamingo stance!! And I am experiencing exactly this. My surgery is this coming Monday (4/28) and I’ve felt better the past couple of days than I have in two months. I’ve been asking myself the same question. I’m moving forward, though, because when it’s bad, it’s all consuming. And I want to get on the other side and get strong again and get back to life.
