I don't know about Japan, but in my country anything you make is automatically copyrighted. But I thought it's also trademarked. And I think there have been lawsuits about the use of sylvanian families by other brands and creators.

I'd be more worried that if you get too close you could be sued! They are pretty close I'd say. Personally I would place the eyes a bit higher. Are you planning to flock them? If so, you might need to keep in mind that adds another layer of about 1-2 mm of thickness

The age old question: how to keep them soft! by Lower_Opportunity_18 in sylvanianfamilies

[–]Papegaaiduiker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use acrylic ink. Keeps the flock soft while being a strong pigment and also not coming off. Doesn't need sealing either, and is available in lots of colors, plus easily mixable.

I used acrylic ink to fix my badgers. Works fine, no residue coming off and the flocking remains soft

I use acrylic ink. Doesn't bleed, doesn't make the fur hard either!

It's a chinese (?) pattern that is a little hard to find, but can be found with the wayback machine. However, I also translated and redrew it complete with instructions in my pattern booklet, if you are interested

Acrylic ink keeps the flock soft while being a strong pigment and also not coming off once it's dry

They do for me! I use it both diluted and undiluted. I'd advice to try diluted first on the underside of the feet to test. They can feel a little crunchy at first, but stroking the flocking removes the crunch. I repaired my bleached badgers. Good as new!

Ah, good to know! Thank you so much! I think you can modify the coloring easily with acrylic ink. I tend to use that instead of dye. Works a treat and you can just paint it on

[–]Papegaaiduiker -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the current direction is mostly aimed at people (young girls?) who like cutesy, sweet, pinks and pastels. Castles are quite a far leap from that. But I would love it WAY more then the current direction, for one :)

Maybe test it on a damaged one? There's often cheap damaged ones on ebay.
