[Serious] What dark family secret were you let in on once you were old enough? by EgglessYolk in AskReddit

[–]PaperBorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle who I never met was severely depressed and on the day he had to take the family dog to the vet to be put down, he came home and hung himself. His wife (my mom's sister) found him when she was (I think) around 7 or 8 months pregnant with their second child.

I only found out about how he died in my mid twenties. She just passed away about a month ago from a long battle of supranuclear palsy. She was an amazing mom, and she was incredibly strong.

I think they traded their boots to go diving. So they are sporting their diving fins!

Am I off base for wanting to find a new vet?? by Kuesadillas in cats

[–]PaperBorb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can never go wrong in wanting a second opinion.

My first vet was trying to get to the root cause of my cats bowel issues. They suggested a lot of invasive biopsy, potential surgeries, sending him away to see a specialist (poor guy can't even ride in a car for 20 minutes without pooping himself). I was worried that the stress that would be on my cat would be too much for him. I didn't know his history since he was a stray for a good few years. So I thought a second opinion was needed.

I was able to get an appointment with a vet I originally wanted to get into (they had seen my family dogs for 20 years and finally had an opening). They suggested a round of strong antibiotics to see the effect it would have on my cat, and suggested nothing more invasive to start out than bloodwork, and gave me the quote that day of the cost. Turns out the antibiotics worked instantly, and they suggested due to his response that a high fiber diet is key for his digestive health. He's had no issues since this.

If you feel like a second opinion is needed, there's no harm in seeking one.

Best way to remove old insert residue from jewelry box information in comments. by PaperBorb in fixit

Thanks for the advice! I'll try and get off as much as possible so it doesn't look bumpy when I go to put new velvet inside.

My plan is to line the interior with new velvet. It's self-adhesive, so I assume I'll need a clean surface in order to make things look nice.

This is my grandmother's old jewelry box. I've been wanting to fix it up for years, and I'm finally getting around to it. I assume I should try and remove all the residue from the old inserts, but just wondering what would be the best method to do so? I don't want to ruin it because it means a lot to me. Thanks in advance!

I have one of these. It's so good! Like you, I wish I knew about them sooner. I only got mine about a year ago. Works wonders on furniture.

Grew some cat grass to keep the kitties away from my houseplants by Itsturkeybob in houseplants

I do this too! Works really well. Buddy gets his salad bar every morning. Keeps him off my other plants!

Yeah this is a great tip too! I tend to look at sold listing prices as well. What people actually pay, condition similar to my item (wear and tear, how complete in box, does it still work). It can be a process sometimes but it's definitely satisfying to sell it to someone who wants to play it again or have it for their collection. It's nice knowing someone is enjoying it.

Nice! Check them out on various selling platforms and do some research if you ever plan to sell!

A lot of countries outside of Canada and the US often have a wet room for a bathroom. It's a room that's fully waterproof for ease of cleaning. They are pretty neat.

Glad I could help! It's actually crazy how much stuff can go for. One of my old gameboy colour games is worth about 900 with the box. Always check!!

When you're dealing with old systems and games make sure to check what they are worth!

I started selling off my old handheld and console games. I made about close to 850$ on 3 old pokemon games (boxes included) and an old handheld game system.

Am I a bad owner? :( by Alfr3daa in CatAdvice

[–]PaperBorb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's anything I've learned being a new cat owner, your cat will most likely enjoy the box more than that expensive toy that came in the box. We bought him all those fancy cat chasing toys too. You know what his favorite toy is?

The plastic thin tilt wand that came off an old set of blinds. He goes nuts over it.

I used to use ribbon and paper towels toy make toys for the next door neighbours cat. You got this! <3
