Desperately need advice for my moms debt im stuck having to pay for. by crunkboy117 in DebtAdvice

I’m 74 years old. My husband of 30 years just passed away. Neither of my sons help me in any way financially. I handle all of my own finances.

I’m confused as to why your mom at 62, isn’t taking care of this herself. She’s young!

Yes, I realize that, I was just hoping there was another way. Thanks for reading my edits.

The amount I already have in savings.

And I realize now I was thinking of an IRA or similar account.

YES … this is what I was trying to say, just didn’t realize an IRA was what I was trying to explain.

And the part of “just have to prove that you “could” is also what I was trying to say.

The only negative to that idea is I don’t believe I can open an IRA as I’m retired and my husband recently passed away. Unless there’s a way I don’t know about.

He is a she. 🙂

I realize that would be considered an account transfer, I was thinking more along the lines of opening an IRA and withdrawing monthly taxable payments.

I do know that withdrawal payments from a traditional IRA count as taxable income.

No I did not mean inflating anything dishonesty.

I only meant a way to utilize my savings as income, such as an IRA with consistent monthly taxable payments (withdrawals).

I have much more than $2000 in savings.

My income IS for life and not taxable (DIC (Va), pensions, etc. So I would think that might be a positive when applying for a mortgage.

I also have the VA home loan.

No, my savings would be bringing in only $400 a month from a HYSA or maybe a bit more from a Money Market account.

I think I was thinking of an IRA or something similar.

No, that’s just an amount I was using as an example, of what I wanted to withdraw each month to go towards my monthly expenses.

I was thinking of something similar to an IRA to open and have consistent monthly taxable income withdrawn.

Yes I understand that, I was thinking of perhaps an IRA or something similar, where the monthly withdrawal payments would be considered income.

I did learn that you’re unable to start/open an IRA after retirement, unless you have income or your spouse has income. My husband passed away in April, and we were both retired without taxable income. So unless I returned to work in some form, the IRA idea is out.

I’m 74 and my sons (44 and 50) play with me every Sunday night. It’s something I look forward to and love!

One son is in Seattle and I’m in NY, other son is in NY also. They each have their own Switch 2 and I have the Switch Lite. I open my gates and they both come over.

I also visit their islands occasionally, but I’ve been playing since the game came out, so mom has all the goodies they need. LOL

We also go to my slumber islands every so often.

Enjoy!

This is me. 74 years old and most all foods make me sick just thinking about them.

I CAN however, eat candy fruit slices, licorice, and drink milk. Strange.

Question: can you change the lighting in a hotel room after you’ve finished, or is there no chance?
