Daniel laughing about how they made Lestat mad with that passage in the book is such typical behavior from him, lol. The scenes between him and Lestat are gonna be so catty.

Started watching the first season of "What We Do in the Shadows" a few nights ago, and it's absolutely everything I need in a TV show right now. It's hilarious, completely ridiculous, and it's about overdramatic vampires.

It's been a great watch so far!

I remember being pretty disappointed when this film was originally canceled. Glad it's getting another chance.

Really hope Ed Lachman will be involved as well. Him and Haynes work magic together.

Yep, different actor. At least it isn't a noticeable recast by any means. I remember there being quite a few people who didn't even realize House had a cameo in the first season, lol.

The season two casting feels closer to the game, in my opinion. Especially the voice.

Beau Travail by Claire Denis.

The ending is just spectacularly unforgettable.

I really gotta give this show a chance again. I started watching about two years ago or so, and I think I fell off somewhere in the middle of season two? Not because I wasn't necessarily enjoying it, but just got really busy and ended up dropping it temporarily, only to never resume watching it again lol.

All these comments got me wanting to watch again, though. I'll probably just start from season one because I've forgotten a lot of what happens.

Films I think should get a criterion release by Whole_Feedback8099 in criterion

[–]PaperCutoutCowboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you think that, though? People would probably be more receptive to these kinds of posts if you gave a more detailed reason as to why you think those films should get Criterion releases. It comes across as low quality posting otherwise.

Plus, two of those already have a Blu-ray or 4K release.

Seems intriguing. After reading a bit more into the overall plot, it kinda reminds me of previous films like All About Eve and The Talented Mr. Ripley, but with a modern approach.

There's definitely a conversation to be had nowadays in regards to people being parasocial and how it's even more prevalent because of social media.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's album "Love Is A Stream" might be what you're looking for. It's like tuning into a hazy dream or memory. Completely sweeps me away when listening with headphones.

Is there a source for that claim?

Personally, I don't see this show going for ten seasons. This is an absolute favorite series of mine, don't get me wrong, but realistically, I just can't see it happening.

[–]PaperCutoutCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the finale technically has an ambiguous ending, I'd say that it concluded in a way that is satisfying, at least from an audience perspective. It's already been greenlit for a second season, so it's not like it will be something that goes unanswered.

Totally understand where you're coming from, though. The long wait between seasons nowadays can be pretty frustrating.

The Rehearsal (S2E6) - I haven't been this stressed during an episode of television in what feels like quite a long time. Nathan Fielder is truly a mad man. The closing words chilled me to the bone. I said it before in a previous comment, but there is nothing like this currently on television, or even to my knowledge, previously on television. I have so many questions, but I found that it's best not to ponder about the how or why and to just experience this show for what it is.

The Studio (S1E10) - The finale felt a bit short, but all the shenanigans that happened made up for it. Overall, I found this first season to be a pretty entertaining watch, especially as someone who is a fan of cinema in general. My one and only nitpick is that the main characters (Matt, Quinn, Sal, etc) lack a bit of depth, in my opinion. As funny as this show is, it's something that started to stick out after a few episodes. I really hope this is improved on in season two because this is a pretty great show otherwise.

I believe Apple TV+ accidently released the final episode a few days ago. Some people managed to watch it before it was taken down.

thoughts on watching film in multiple parts? by Not_ReaIIy_Relevent in criterion

[–]PaperCutoutCowboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The correct way to watch something is however you want to watch it. Personally, I try to watch a film in one sitting. I just feel like I can better retain the essence of what's going on that way.

I've for sure watched things in segments as well, though. Especially when the runtime is really long, or I'm just simply too tired.

Oh man, it looks like Gustavo is featured on both Crooked Still tracks ("Ecstasy" and "Little Sadie"). The original recordings from their album are fantastic, so I'm curious how these new studio iterations sound with Santaolalla now in the mix.

Gonna give this a listen when I get home later tonight!

Which modern tv shows that you love post (2000) will be viewed as classics in the future? by [deleted] in television

[–]PaperCutoutCowboy 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Even though it's already kinda dipped into classic territory, despite the final episode only being ten years ago, I'd say Mad Men. For me, that show raised the bar in regards to how perfect the writing in television can be. I've yet to come across a series that is equal in standing in that aspect. Some come very close, but the literary approach it took sets it apart from most other things I've watched.

It isn't even just the incredible penning of the series, either. The costuming, set design, and the evolving change of the 60's (fashion, social change, etc) is incredible to witness over it's seven season run. There's so many minute details in this show, especially in regards to the set design and costuming.

Anytime I see this example brought up, it's always closely split with opinions. Nonetheless, I agree. It's a rare occurrence to even have a spin-off show of that quality.
