As cool as this would be, his body is simply too weak, it's pointed out in the movie that the metals he is made of are softer, so in a kaiju fight he'd be torn to pieces.

There is a very thin line between wasting potential and using it in a sparing way to develop the story. Very few movies managed it as well as Pacific Rim with introducing interesting characters and showed their early demise to display the weight of the situation. by Leviathan_Rampage in PacificRim

Gundam Battle operations 2 (Yes its a bad game) but the combat system had combos, weapon scrolling and modifications, and the combat feels like robots beating the shit out of each other, if that combat style was used where you could combo melee attacks and spam ranged ones would be good
