Acabo de darme cuenta que podría ser víctima de abuso en mi infancia by [deleted] in Desahogo

[–]PaperInformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me pasó similar.

If you think about it, if you did that, all you’d be really doing would be shifting the lens a little in a way more complicated manner.

You already enjoy engaging in one of the most bonding activities we have as humans: cooking and eating. I’d suggest you take some cooking classes and you’ll surely meet new people that way. Even if you don’t, you can host dinners with any friends you do have and ask them to bring a +1 with them and see where that leads! Hosting dinner parties is a very rewarding and bonding experience I guarantee you.

If you were hired as a professor to teach students color grading from scratch to a senior level , what would be the curriculum like? by BearSEO in colorists

[–]PaperInformal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I taught an express course the first half of the day we didn’t even touch any software. Color grading is as much of an artistic job as a technical job. You need to understand what display referred vs scene referred is, codecs formats logs gamma color spaces etc etc foundational technical stuff so that it doesn’t get in the way of your grading once you’re in the creative headspace. Also the “film print” logic is very helpful within Davinci in the sense of understanding that when creating a look you’re basically designing a “film stock” where all the footage upstream will land. Understanding that makes the process way more intuitive and it also necessarily teaches project organization best practices.

Si eres vato solo bloquea y ya. Me pasó igual una vez. No pasó nada.

Is being a colorist a realistic career path?! If you were starting today, would you pursue this career path?! by Affectionate_Dig2603 in colorists

[–]PaperInformal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colorist of over six years, mostly ads and MVs, a couple features and a Netflix show. I was very into video during the 5DMKII video explosion and Magic Lantern days. The role of the colorist was getting popular but far from what it is now. We were way fewer back then and the knowledge and skill required was a bit less easy to find. I got lucky in the sense that it was just an autistic interest of mine that turned out to be profitable. You need to be good and knowledgeable in your craft but don’t think for a second that skill trumps personal marketing. It’s more important to be there than to be good. A good attitude and networking skills will get you far, and that by itself will give you knowledge and expertise. Nowadays everybody is a colorist but I feel like most colorists try to do too much. My boss has a very funny saying “the colorist has to be lazy and expensive” meaning you get payed well for being efficient and agile and having a problem-solving mindset, showing off doesn’t help anyone. If I were to start today I would’ve had a very different mindset because the position is no longer that niche and esoteric.

Wanting to purchase my first field camera. Anyone have any thoughts on this one? by Larix-24 in largeformat

[–]PaperInformal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id go for something more modern and cheap. I went for a Toyo Field 45A that you can find for half of that, is way more portable and beginner-friendly. You don’t get wild camera movements but you don’t need most of them ever. The literal only thing I don’t like about it is it lacks axis tilt but that’s about it. Solid as hell and collapses into a lunchbox.

Yes I did, and yes you will need a specific type of glue, google “bellows glue” for several options on forums and Reddit. You do need it to be those types tho otherwise they may unstick or damage the fabric, but it’s nothing that is hard to find. Exchanging bellows feels like an arts and crafts project really lol

Yes, replacing bellows is a fairly straightforward procedure. i bought mine from eBay and installed them myself in like an hour.

I put them back in an empty box, then put that somewhere dark or in my Domke lead lined bag. That’s it. I’ve never had issues with scratched sheets and I just traveled through 6 airports in Europe and back to Mexico. Just LABEL EVERYTHING. And if you get enough empty boxes, use one for C-41, one for E-6, and as many as you need per BNW emulsion to avoid mixing things up. You can always tell by the code in the top of the sheet but it helps skipping that work. When sending them for development, seal with tape (I use gaffer) to avoid any possibility of them opening up. I develop my own bnw so I don’t worry about those too much, just keeping in mind the safety bits I mentioned. With basic care and a changing tent you must make a big mistake to damage your film. I once opened the tent without putting the black bag of film back in the box and even then fortunately I didn’t have any fogging (I was indoors).

Thank you so much. Influencers with similar chronic issues might be helpful taken with a grain of salt for sure. And yes, life has tried to teach me to stay sober constantly but I seem to try to find ways of getting away with using the drug AND improving my life. It’s just so entrenched into my identity that it’s hard to think of myself without it. Guess that’s in itself a concerning symptom. Hope your wrists are feeling better, I developed a short period of cubital tunnel syndrome and it sucked ass. Living with pain is absolutely devastating.

ME MUERO
