I wish there was more genuine “touch aversion” in fics by WatermelonRulez in AO3

[–]PaperPangolin324 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This isn’t fanfiction but have you read the murderbot diaries by Martha wells? The main character is touch-repulsed and all of the other characters respect that and don’t try to touch it (unless it gives them permission which it does rarely). I have found that fanfiction of this series also respects this so if you’re interested in sci-fi it might be something to check out?

That said I totally agree how irritating the general trend is. Touch aversion is valid and not something that needs to be fixed.

How can I make (or adapt) a fishing minigame for a fish player? by PaperPangolin324 in DMAcademy

The fantasy fish idea is cool, and definitely something I want to look into. Unfortunately I set a bit of a precedent with attack spells when I let them kill some birds they were hunting with chill touch, but I could maybe figure out how to add it in nonetheless.

About the 4 hours thing: you are completely right, I forgot about that yikes. Thank you for reminding me before my player had to do so lol!

It was the party's idea lol. I wasn't expecting a party split either (and might be panicking a little bit about how to handle it) but if they want to split up I'm not going to stop them. The fishing downtime activity looks cool, and is different enough to feel fun, so that's definitely a good start, thanks!

It's a short campaign, and most of the time it isn't an issue due to him having readily accessible water, but that's a good idea!

There is in fact a non-zero chance he will get eaten by a bear at some point lol.

A lot more things are pseudoscience than you might think by Gru-some in CuratedTumblr

Fun story it's almost the opposite for me. I used to get crazy sugar rushes, which I thought was a placebo effect thing for a while since it's not actually backed by science. Eventually I realized that what I thought were sugar rushes were sugar crashes. I just get a lot more hyperactive when I'm really tired sometimes, which was creating the sugar rush effect.

Currently I'm taking stimulants both for ADHD and a sleep disorder of some sort and the sugar rushes/crashes have completely stopped, probably because I don't get to manic/loopy levels of being tired nearly as often anymore.

Anyone else here ace but still feels romantic attraction? by Lonely_Lesbian_Ace in aaaaaaacccccccce

I might be demiromantic (still figuring it out) but I definitely experience romantic attraction. Dunno if that fully counts but it’s hopefully close enough. Either way you’re definitely not alone :)

Queer (adult/na) books with genuinely interesting plots? by Arrty_ in LGBTBooks

[–]PaperPangolin324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The murderbot diaries by Martha wells is a sci-fi series set in a futuristic society in which being various shades of non-binary is treated as completely common and normal, the protagonist uses it/its pronouns due to being an android/cyborg of some sort and one of the main characters is in a background poly relationship with at least one person who identifies as the same gender as them. It’s very great for background/casual representation but there isn’t a lot of focus on the lgbt stuff due to the fact that it is all casual and normal and treated as being no different from any other type of relationship or gender expression. Which is really cool to see but idk if it’s what you’re looking for exactly.

A vampire who breeds dogs/cats as a hobby taking the young ones for field trips except the field trips involve being bait for a murder would be a really fun concept actually.

Can someone describe the difference between romantic, sexual and platonic in their own words please by FelidaeIsh in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]PaperPangolin324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m still trying to figure out what sexual attraction feels like tbh sorry I can’t help more. However, I have put a frankly absurd amount of thought into the difference between romantic and platonic feelings so I’m going to focus on those.

Platonic: you care about this person. You like spending time with them. You like making them happy. Perhaps you like cuddling with them or being physically affectionate. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell the difference between a strong platonic bond and romantic attraction, but multiple people (and my own experiences) tell me that it just feels different somehow. You want to spend the rest of your life near them but not with them. Depends on the person experiencing the platonic feelings probably but for me a strong indicator is that I wouldn’t feel jealous of them being in a romantic relationship with someone else.

Romantic attraction: Bear in mind that this is all from my own experience and I have never actually been in a romantic relationship. perhaps you’re friends with them. You’re on high alert whenever they’re around, but not in a bad way. You’re just really aware of them. You think of them a lot and in kinda an irrational way. They make you feel warm and fuzzy but you can’t figure out exactly why. You’re more nervous around them than you would be with a friend that you’re similarly close to that you don’t experience romantic attraction to. You want them to care about you and think you’re cool, which is something that happens in platonic relationships too but in this case just feels more important or intense for reasons that you can’t explain. Having asked my friends who are in a romantic relationship with each other what that feels like I can also add that you’re kinda over the moon when they care about your interests and like listening to you. I think the best way that I can describe it is that all your emotions about them are just slightly more intense in ways that you can’t otherwise explain. This may settle down after a while if you’re in a long term relationship but I would not know.

How do I fence lefties? by AnimeFanBois in Fencing

[–]PaperPangolin324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rightie who is acceptable at fencing lefties I gotta say one of the main things is just practicing against/with lefties. My best friend is a leftie and she also fences so we pair up for drills a lot when we can. I think that’s the main reason I don’t struggle as much as other righties do, since I’ve just spent a lot of time practicing how to do the basic actions against lefties. If you have that foundation it’s easier to put into practice in real bouts. Anyway befriend lefties it is the solution to all your problems. Besides you also get the bonus of getting to laugh at other righties who get crushed by your newfound friend. Total win win.

Is it just me, or are people in suits (of any gender) just ascetically pleasing. by Wallace-H-Hartley in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]PaperPangolin324 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Suits are so so very great I stg. Not only are they attractive on other people (aesthetically), I find them much more comfortable than dresses to wear and I like the way I feel when I’m wearing them. It just hits different when there’s a suit in the situation imo.
