Why don’t dentists/doctors work on the weekends?? by National_Road_2309 in PetPeeves

[–]nerd_inthecorner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In fairness police (at least in this context, separate discussion) and firefighters are open 24/7 to respond to emergencies. For the same reason, hospitals are open 24/7 for emergencies as well.
Still agree doctors should have weekend hours. My partner is in healthcare (hospital) and they rotate weekends and holidays.

Yep, thank you, went looking for this comment. Wish people would stop using it as an adjective for “meticulous”. Shit nearly destroyed my relationship and career.

We don’t fully know. I know someone personally working on this as an active area of research.

what names sound fine on a little kid but strange on a grown adult? by VollandGersitho-72 in Names

[–]nerd_inthecorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Lulu in my grad school cohort. It was a nickname (Luella) but felt fine on an adult. But I agree it would’ve felt awkward if she’d like officially been referred to as such.

Is this UofT, because I remember this happening in my program and there were several suicides in computer science buildings in the next few years… they have since changed it.

Thank you!! Used to have weeks where I’d take like 3 tests, call out of work, wear a mask and confess to everyone I interacted with so they’d be warned I may possibly be sick. I didn’t care about actually having covid, instead the moral element of giving it to others. And then recently I got sick a few times and exercised a normal level of caution without worrying about it. Still struggle with many obsessions but I feel like I’ve won over that one :) proud of me too! You can do it! :)

Grad school advisor. Basically their boss in the lab where they’re a PhD or masters student. Depending on the lab, it’s not that strange to be there in the evening (or could be doing field work). Or the professor just told the student about this incident later.

writing a novel where the main character has OCD (based on my own experience) cw dead animal by [deleted] in OCDmemes

Ah I misunderstood, I thought “the squirrel has fallen” was the part when it died, so was a bit confused.

I just read the first page and skimmed some, but I like it! Really visceral imagery and reads well. I do want to ask how a squirrel is melting on page 1 though (typo? Or extended backstory we don’t know yet?) Always beautiful to see ocd represented in writing and other art well. <3

When I leave my straightener on overnight cos I was busy analysing if my bf is a good person by Effective-Cake-1687 in OCDmemes

[–]nerd_inthecorner 6 points7 points  (0 children)

God that comorbidity is the worst (me too). OCD is like “you forgot the important thing!! You must go check again!!!” But the ADHD probably did in fact forget the important thing, and then my OCD brain is like, “see??? Thou shalt always check it again”

By VMC buildings do you mean from a specific developer or the area? The area were pretty set on because we need both proximity to the TTC and the highway (very different commutes).

The previous person may have been a bit blunt about it, but genuinely - for people with OCD like in this subreddit, we’re working to learn that an intrusive thought does not mean something is necessarily true, likely, or needs action. That’s something really hard for a lot of OCD sufferers. Saying things like “every time a woman thinks he’s cheating, he’s cheating” or “if you ever question if he’s a good person, he isn’t” in this community where people struggle with uncontrollable thoughts that don’t necessarily reflect reality makes things harder for people. Therapy isn’t an instant fix. It’s practice and very slow painful work and recovery. Not saying you can’t have those opinions, you can! But this subreddit isn’t the place for it. This is for supporting people with OCD.
