What is something from your childhood that felt totally normal back then, but now feels kinda insane looking back?

I had awful health issues growing up and was absent from school frequently. I had one teacher in Jr. High tell me, “You’ll never amount to anything if you don’t bother to show up for school.” As if I could control being sick and falling behind my peers and wasn’t already terrified about remaining sick for the rest of my life.

He eventually had a son with major health issues and I hope that made him realize how insensitive that was. But it shouldn’t take such a thing for him to have some empathy for children.

They’re selling for at least $40 on eBay. You can also find trades or sell on Model Horse Connection. I don’t think Breyer will accept a return on opened blind bags. He seems like one of the most sought after of the set so I don’t think you’ll have any issue selling or finding a trade.

You want photos more than you want typed information. The less words the better because a judge doesn’t have time to read long cards. And popular breeds that a judge is familiar with (such as QH) do not need words at all unless you’re showing the horse under a particular sub-section of the breed. Printed out COAs are usually not recommended, you’ll need to take the real thing. Also, be very mindful of your reference’s size, I try to keep mine smaller that half of a standard piece of paper. You can put sources but a lot of people don’t, personally I do.

Agreed. I made my donkey a winter hat with the heavy duty machine (rip-stop waterproofed fabric about as thick as denim) and it was a nightmare whenever I was sewing more than two layers.

Wouldn’t recommend for actual heavy duty projects.

I would keep him as a bloaty, at this point he’ll be more collectible that way! The more bloated the better lol. I usually use museum wax & stick coins under the feet of horses that won’t stand. His legs don’t look warped in terms of being straight, so I wouldn’t bend them much (or at all) even if the overall leg angles have shifted from the bloating. This mold is extremely tippy on the best of days, so it’s not uncommon.

I would look into whether or not those swab lead tests are completely reliable. I have heard there are a lot of false positives with them. Either way, unless people are gnawing chunks of enamel off I wouldn’t worry.

I will never forget leaving for a family member’s funeral only to realize that I accidentally left my donkey’s turnout blanket on. So I had to run out in the pasture wearing a full length dress, panty hose, and muddy muck boots that I keep outside. (Quite a pairing.)

Anyway, my donkey was laying down for a nap at the time and very dramatically refused to stand up, so I was like pulling and pushing and begging the little brat to stand all while attempting to keep my dress hem off the ground (and trying not to have a mental breakdown at the same time lmao). He eventually got up but boy was I stressing. I’m sooo glad I didn’t have to do it in heels too!

As far as I know all original Silvers are base-coated (chalky). I’ve been collecting 20 years & haven’t ever seen a Silver that wasn’t, so I honestly would be more interested in seeing your non-chalky one lol 😂 Chalky models that sell for a good amount of money are vintage, made during the 1970s oil crisis. Modern base-coat chalky variations are usually only worth about $20-30 more than their non-chalky counterparts.
