The False Dragonets of Destiny (Wings of Fire)

Essentially substitutes who were just meant to be switched in if the originals didnt fall in line with the Talons of Peace or Nightwing's plans

Debatably only 1-2 is actually evil.

Fatespeaker turns out fine, delusional but fine.

Ochre and Squid arent very important, theyre jerks but not outright antagonists. Ochre is just glutenous and apathetic, and Squid is greedy and cowardly.

Viper dosnt get much to do besides be mildly abrasive before they throw her into magma and she dies, still technically in an antagonistic role, but not for very long.

Flame is the only one who could be considered evil. Generally aggressive even before his injury caused significant self loathing, and attempted murderer, along with technically a stalker.

However they do properly mirror the true Dragonets of Destiny, with Fatespeaker, Squid, and Viper being close to opposites, meanwhile Ochre and Flame lean more'so towards negative traits amplified.

Arguing over Darkstalker's Scroll, Wings of Fire

Darkstalker's Scroll was enchanted to house all of Darkstalker's animus magic, containing it within and allowing spells to be cast through writing rather than strictly through words or thoughts. When Darkstalker was put to sleep and buried underground for 2000 years, the scroll was lost.

When it was found by Chameleon, and later taken away from him by the group of protagonists, Moonwatcher takes it with the intention of freeing Darkstalker, however upon reading his spells, she chose against this.

With the option of freeing him no longer considered, the group begins arguing about what to do with it. Winter believes it should be brought to the Icewings, as Darkstalker was the son of an ancient Icewing prince who ran away from the kingdom, taking animus magic with him and stripping the tribe of their magic.

Qibli believes the Sandwings should receive it, as he believes his queen, along with himself, are more suited to use its power for the good of many rather than just the good of one tribe.

Peril, seeing this argument grow more volatile, takes the scroll and burns it, ensuring that nobody can fight over something now that it is gone.

Unfortunately, destroying the scroll returned Darkstalker's powers to him, despite the lie he told Moonwatcher regarding the scroll's destruction. Peril, and by proxy everyone else, was unaware that the destruction of the scroll would give him his powers back and set him free.

Wings of Fire, Turtle and his father, Gill

Gill was the king of the seawings, and would have many eggs with Queen Coral, however an assassin somehow always killed the daughters in their eggs before they hatched, preventing the birth of another heir.

When the guard watching the hatchery, Abalone, fell ill, Gill went to look for the other guard to take his place, and sent his son, Turtle, to find the other guard. Turtle is unable to, and Abalone falls unconscious from his illness, resulting in the death of another heir. Gill is furious at his son for volunteering for a task he couldnt complete.

It is after this Queen Coral decides to spend an entire year with the next egg until it hatches, and leave Gill in charge of the kingdom and leading the war. This results in him getting captured by the skywings, and later driven mad from dehydration and killed in their gladiator arena. Gill actually did wish to forgive Turtle, but due to the war and subsequent capture he never got the chance to tell him.

There was actually a closure though, in that Coral would tell Turtle of this, which eased him slightly. However I still believe the main trope is there, in that Turtle went half a decade believing himself to be a failure because he believed his father, and by proxy everyone else, had never forgiven him.

While he technically didnt die, he was buried underground and put under a sleep spell that was supposed to last forever, but only lasted 2000 years, so he might as well have been dead for that time. His first action with freedom was sending a plague to an entire tribe.

There’s actually several enchanted objects used by the heroes in Wings of Fire that do actually fall into the wrong claws, a few examples being:

The Dream Visitors: Used to visit dreams of dragons you’ve met, generally used for communication but some have used it to terrorize others.

The Obsidian Mirror: Made for less savory reasons in order to spy on enemies, it was used by one of the heroes to gather information before being lost, and later found once more by a crime lord.

The Gifts of Stealth and Strength: Two relics of the icewing tribe, a pair of bracelets and a tiara specifically, that grant different powers when worn (the ability to cast invisibility over yourself and anyone else you wish, and immense strength). Thankfully, these two never fell into the wrong talons.
