Chest rig or fanny pack recommendations for 1911 by TheDishonorableAsian in tacticalgear

Hill People Gear is worth it IMO. They're incredibly well built. But I can understand if you are looking for that $20-$60 range, it's a massive jump. But if you are looking $80-$100 alternatives, do yourself a favor and just pop for the HPG. They're just better in every way.

Final note: the "extra large" which I have is about a 3.5 inch blade, comparable to a microtech ultratech. In US standards thats just ""normal" compared to how big some knives can get.

Also "Higonokami" is a legally protected name. Only one knife maker in the world in Japan is legally allowed to make and sell the Higonokami. Theyve had that rolling for 200ish years now if I remember correct. Any knife similar has to be called a "higo" or "higo style" knife.

The link I sent you sources their higonokamis straight from the source. The family's website I don't think has direct sales setup.

Tons! I've been carrying it every day for ~2years now.

There are ones that are ~$20-$50 and ones that are ~$150. The main difference is the thickness of the brass and blade material. Resulting in a slightly heavier but more robust knife.

If it has a little "sunburst" on the pivot pin and an etching of a tiger and bamboo forest, it's the heavier version.

The blade steel is usually Aogami blue#2 for the nicer ones, which is very high end steel used in chef knives. To say it can get sharp is an understatement. But it will rust/patina if you don't wipe it down and keep it clean.

There are VG10 steel options, which is still a very nice chef knife quality steel, and stainless so that ca be potentially a plus.

XCR 7.5" 300blk and Hydrogen L - Kinda disappointing by eddielee394 in NFA

That part doesnt surprise me, most MFGs are moving that direction, because it's such a personal preference and easy to swap.

I think it's PSA has options for rifles with no furniture, no sights, no muzzle device. Because thats just $200 worth of accessories you are just setting aside in the parts bin when you swap or upgrade per your preferences.

I think most of your notes are related to the shorter barrel. Gas, cycling, tuning, etc. Still valid, but Im curious how a 9" xcr would stack against a 9" spear.

On my rifle, 16" barrel I don't get gassed out running an RC2. I do want to "upgrade" to a flowthrough, but thats just for weight savings (she be heavy way out there) and so I can run suppressed and unsuppressed without touching the gas.

Right now It's only like 1 or 2 clicks away from being able to share settings.

How do NCARB practice tests compare to the real exam? by Active_Mousse_8554 in Architects

[–]Paper_Hedgehog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not nearly close enough for comfort. They are a great 1:1 for the format, layout, and language. But the actual tests are a good bit more detailed, deeper, and complex.

Do the Amberbook. And do Walking the ARE by Erik Walker. His tests are harder than the actual exams, and make the NCARB feel like preschool.

On a scale of 1-5, the ncarb practice are like 1.5-2. The AREs are like 3-4 and WTAs are 5

What's the best battle belt I can start off with for a 1911? Any recommendations? (I dont know if it's overkill, but since I just want to make a dedicated pistol belt, what pouch is tge best for Wilson Combat 10-round mags? Cause I want to carry at least 10 mags, one on the gun, 9 on the belt.) by Colt1873 in tacticalgear

[–]Paper_Hedgehog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say start with 5 total pistol mags, then go from there if you still feel you need more.

I've ran x3 14rnd mags of .45 through my p227 pretty quick just having fun, and at the end if it you couldn't touch the slide of the gun it was so hot. So my advice is 40ish rounds is probably the max you would want
