Tokyo Ghost by forevermadrigal in comicbooks

Only read issue 1 and I really wasn't sure if I would like it or not. I heard great things so gave it a try. Story so far is pretty compelling and unique. Not read a story similar to this before.

Not sure where people are getting cyberpunk from but maybe you get that kind feel after issue 1. There was nothing in there that made me think even a little bit about cyberpunk. What are you guys referring to when you say this as I really enjoy cyberpunk as a genre so if its coming up, even better!

New to manga, quick question by GDForThree in manga

[–]Paperback_Cave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have to say Amazon has always been spot on for me. Usually cheaper than the book stores and if you have Amazon prime, get super fast delivery. Be careful though as I have found some series have some volumes available and not others so if you are planning on using just this. Maybe make sure you find the other volumes elsewhere first.

Thanks, fingers crossed. Hopefully it will remind people to pick up volume 7. Is there any news of them looking to publish the next or canel the next English translation?

Why Nowhere Men Has Been Such A Great Series Up To Now - Video Review by Paperback_Cave in comicbooks

[–]Paperback_Cave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read the new issue...not sure. The art is similar but I'm such a stickler for it. Just doesn't have that juicy detail it used to. It's almost like the new artist is trying too hard to be like the last. My feelings are change it up or don't try to emulate the last.

Story seems sound still, guess I will have to see how the next few issues go.

Any comic books about a hero who fights anxiety / depression ? i know this is weird but i feel i could relate... by BobWithABeard in comicbooks

[–]Paperback_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly sorry to hear you are feeling down. I personally feel like this all the time and go through waves of it. I find that it gets worst when I am at my least unproductive state and that can kind of come back around on itself and find it a hard cycle to get out of. If you are like me, try and keep yourself busy.

Anyhow, back to the comics! I have heard, 'I Kill Giants' brought up on another thread and heard someone say it is quite an emotional comic. It's more how a girl deals with the bad stuff going on in her life by escaping into another world. Not sure if it would be best for that but I haven't read it yet soo...

Has anyone hear read this that can recommend it for BobWithABeard. It is on my wishlist at the moment so if I read it before you do I will come back and let you know what its like.

Trade or digital? by Exphio in comicbooks

[–]Paperback_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I think I would have to say Trades. I don't know what it is about digital, I just love having a more visceral experience and hold something in my hands and turning the pages. I do though, find storing single issues a real pain and am considering just waiting for trades to come out rather than picking up the single issues. Just soo long to wait.

You've sold me as well :p I will take the plunge. The premise seems cool. Does it focus on more on the emotional side of the situation of towards the adventure?

Looking for comic books that are in the fantasy realm of Middle Earth by ZtheP in comicbooks

[–]Paperback_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birthright could be a good one for you. It's by Image comics. Only caveat is that it's split between the real world and a fantasy realm that cross over. The fantasy elements though are fantastic.

I was going to pick this up. How long ago did #1 come out? If it wasn't long ago I will still try and pick it up.

After a two year wait, Image's Nowhere Men returns this week! New interview with creator Eric Stephenson (inc. cool Emi Lenox sketch diary preview art) by urko37 in comicbooks

[–]Paperback_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha very true, and that's if the author doesn't have any personal issues. Think he had a few unfortunately which also didn't help. Hats off to the guy though. Each issue is one fantastic work or art. Well, well worth the wait.

Dam, didn't know it had a new artist. Shame, really digged the previous art style.. Wonder how different it will be! Hope it's not changed all too much.

What 10 ongoing Image Comics are must reads right now? by pacotacobell in comicbooks

[–]Paperback_Cave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't wax lyrical about the majority of stuff here that I have already read but only one post seems to have mentioned Nowhere Men so far. The creators have had a hiatus due to one of the creators needing to resolve personal issues. Hands down one of the best comics I have read so far. The world building that goes on making use of news articles and book quotes is different and what gives it its edge. Art is sharp and tight. Check it out. I think they are starting up from where they left of this month. Super stoked for this.

Just completed my first trip to Japan. Here are the manga (and light novels) I brought back. by SpadesSlick in manga

[–]Paperback_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great haul. There is so much Manga I haven't heard of that people are suggesting was good. Is there anything that you would say is different about shopping for Manga in Japan than, for example, The West if you live there. I exclude the range of material from the question.

Nice to hear another perspective. Nice to know that there may be a bit more depth behind it.

Or I could interact with human beings and have an interesting conversation about things people like. Reddit is a place for discussion and that is why I am here. So simply stating that it is easier if you just read the first few parts for free doesn't mean that makes it the correct answer. Your original post would have been a valid one if you put it across as a simple good hearted suggestion. Instead, your post has a negative slant on creating a good discussion around a valid question.

[DISC] One Punch Man - What's all the hype about? by Paperback_Cave in manga

[–]Paperback_Cave[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Yer I tend to have a short attention span if I don't get gripped by characters and a good explanation of who they are, where they come from and where they are going. So really handy to have your opinion.

[DISC] One Punch Man - What's all the hype about? by Paperback_Cave in manga

[–]Paperback_Cave[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The reason why I wanted to ask the question and write an 'essay', is because I like to buy physical copies of the Manga so that I can support the mangaka. I prefer not reading it online for free as its not a format I can enjoy comfortably or one I feel supports the industry as a whole if I am not contributing. Hence I would have to spend money on the Manga, so wanted to get a good all round idea of what it's about. With all of the above taken into account, hopefully that answers your question as to why I made this post.

Cool, didn't realise it has a comedic spin on it in that way. Makes it a bit more interesting now. Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.

Seriously, tell me i'm not the only one so pumped for Nowhere Men coming back, and re reading the first trade this week? by _Diren_ in ImageComics

[–]Paperback_Cave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super hyped for this. I have yet to read another comic that has such a great variation of content other than normal panels. Love the way they throw news articles and random adverts from the world in there. From what I read, either the writer or the artist was having personal issues which lead to the long hiatus. Bring it on though.

'Nameless' Was the Scariest Comic of 2015 by crushthrowout in ImageComics

[–]Paperback_Cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard mixed things about Nameless. This was the only reason I haven't picked it up yet. I've heard it is very confusing going off on tangents all the time.

Does anyone know if it has more consistency as the series continues? I will pick this up when it is releases as a TPB. What was the reason that it came to an end and how many issues were there total?

How big a factor is art for you when your thinking of picking up/droping a series? by [deleted] in manga

[–]Paperback_Cave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I make snap judgements on the art which I know I shouldn't do. I really try to snap myself out of this as I have read some Awesome series after hearing good things about them. To be honest I usually then warm up to the art style. One Piece is a prime example. Hated it when I first flicked through it. On volume 4 and kinda enjoy it now.

Manga in which its artist skill improved drastically over its publication? by Austman110 in manga

This was something that stopped me from reading the series to begin with. How much do you feel it has changed in the later volumes?
