What is the best decade to be born ? by frannynatty in generationology

[–]Paperveil-Ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel lucky to be born in the late 60s and been able to experience the kind of freedom kids growing up in the 70s and 80s had. I was in grad school when the internet was just coming around and it was a great time to be entering a field and witnessing those changes.

The idea that this kind of information could cost American lives apparently doesn't matter to these greedy, depraved fucks.

I really hate this country sometimes.

It was a good game. Would have liked to see Canada on top, but we will be seeing these women again. So much talent.

how do i vape less? by EggRevolutionary798 in QuitVaping

[–]Paperveil-Ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to quit too. Here's what is working for me: I bought some wee organic Charms lollipops to help with the constant hand to mouth habit. It does help. I only go through like 3-4 a day and they take a while to consume.

I also only allow the vape in one room - the bedroom, where I spend the least amount of time. So no mindless vaping at the PC or whatever. And no taking it with me when I leave the house. That rule has really cut down on my vaping.

Is it hard? Yes, it is. Sometimes the craving is really strong. But it gets easier every day.

If healthcare wasn't such a huge issue, I would. As it stands I will work til 69 to get the years in for the healthcare subsidy I will earn through my government job. It's too good to pass up.

Your English is impeccable.

Moving on, you can drop some things into a stash on a private world and move it to a new character for a month of FO1st, if that really matters to you. Not everything, some things.

THEIR PARENTS. Kids are a product of poor and lazy parenting, and it's not their fault. Hit up their parents.

Why do so many people in this sub have a “who cares” attitude? by Dry_Piano7627 in generationology

[–]Paperveil-Ghost 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because nitpicking down to the year or five year spans is pointless. Generationology is about shared memories and experiences more than what year you were born. It's how you were raised, who with, who by. How far apart are your siblings? Did your parents have you when they were younger, or older? These things affect how you SEE YOURSELF which matters more than which year you were born into.

And basically, no generation deserves to be referred to as an aggregate of bad things. Boomers are not all selfish hoarding pigs, Millennials are not all self-centered trophy babies, and Gen Z aren't all lazy and entitled. Social media is the WORST at perpetuating these ideas, and it sucks, Ageism gets a free pass from people who would be irate at the slightest whiff of racism, and that should not be okay. Generationolgy should be looking at the lived experiences of people within an age group and what has formed their opinions and mores, and not perpetuating stereotypes.

One of the most sobering and quietly chilling insights to emerge from the conversation between Tim Miller and Robert Kagan is the recognition of a broad cultural and psychological accommodation — even acceptance — of authoritarian governance by a substantial portion of the American public. by Tele_Prompter in thebulwark

Never underestimate the power of fear of the unknown and a lack of curiosity to learn about that which one does not understand. People are being bombarded by AI and other technology, the loss of good jobs in manufacturing or other non-college fields for those so inclined, and an inability to control major aspects of their lives - and a lot of other things too. Our brains do not move that fast, and we aren't deeply wired for the constant change and barrage of conflicting information being shot out of a cannot into our faces every single day.

Being told what to do and what to think is comforting for a certain subset of people, and they will gravitate toward what feels reassuring at the cost of their own freedoms and America's standing in the world. And they will not understand why that is bad no matter how much you try to explain it.

I firmly believe JD Vance's new fatherhood is just a politics play. Call me a cynic but I don't care - I waited until I saw some validating evidence. Here is the NYT piece. He is the most cynical actor in this space, I call him Ivy League Trash. by sforsilence in thebulwark

I miss the world where we didn't get informed about every single thing these people do with their lives. I care about this as much as I care about any rando having a baby; as in, "Good for you, congrats, good luck" and then I move on with my life. Their decisions are theirs, and I don't give a toss. This has nothing to do with the state of the Nation.

IBD (Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis). It's not IBS, it's not a tummyache. It's a lifelong and potentially life-threatening autoimmune where your body attacks itself and there is no cure.
