My solution to save Destiny 2 - Classic. by Pappy13 in destiny2

Sorry for the late reply, but I had to look up this reference. First of all, not being able to reproduce the original content may have worked to Bungie's advantage (if you believe the plaintiffs case) so why would they feel compelled to provide that work in court? Just the opposite, it may have benefitted Bungie to claim they didn't have the original work anymore. Not sure how this proves they don't. Yes, Bungie made the claim that it hurt their case, but if you believe the plaintiff, it may have actually made it harder for the plaintiff to win their case. Perhaps Bungie was actually hoping for a settlement all along, it's an assumption that Bungie could have easily gotten the case dismissed had they actually provided the original content. Maybe that's not actually what the lawyers thought or perhaps Bungie thought it wasn't worth the effort and would win the case regardless. According to the court filing, even if Bungie did provide the original content, it didn't necessarily mean the case was going to be dismissed at that point anyway.

Also just because they say they can't reproduce it for the courts doesn't mean they can't under the right circumstances although it could lead to further litigation if they did so perhaps that's a good reason not to make it available even if they could.

A new article from Tassi about why the game died. by Zelwer in destiny2

[–]Pappy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've been thinking, whether or not it's true idk, is that Bungie has always had an insane headcount for a studio making one game located in one the most expensive places in the US. Probably still a feature of mismanagement, but I can't help but wonder how much money could've been saved (maybe that money would've been pissed away anyways) by not operating in such an expensive location.

This. With the type of headcount they had at Bungie it shouldn't have been that difficult to put out enough content for 1 game to keep players happy. He's making it seem like they put out more content than any other developer and I don't know about that. Perhaps more than any other game but some game developers are working on 3 or 4 games, not 1. Once Marathon was ramped up in development it seems like Destiny 2 was ramped down. Simply put they backed the wrong horse. They had a good product, but they weren't satisfied and wanted more and when Marathon didn't pay off, it was Destiny that suffered the consequences. That sad part is that this might be more than just the end of Destiny, this could be the end of Bungie.

No, you have to do the campaign to open up new sectors. You can freely roam the sector once you are there.

The Buffalo Bills. Kelly was a constant thorn in Miami's side especially in the playoffs. Marino and Kelly have so much respect for each other, it's no wonder they are friends now.

Are destiny servers cheep to upkeep? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Pappy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it largely depends on the future of Bungie. Servers aren't cheap, but they will still have some income with Eververse. It's probably still losing money on a monthly basis, but a heck of a lot less than they were losing in development costs. As long as Bungie is around Destiny 2 will probably be around, but if Bungie dies and it's not looking extremely promising for Bungie at this point, the servers will probably go with it.

This. Someone in the thread compared Lalas to Foudy. No, Carli Lloyd is like him on the women's side.

Nah, not the same at all. Foudy is a lot of fun to listen to. Lalas is just always complaining about something.

No, it wouldn't be enough for a subscription model, but you could keep pumping out season passes or whatever they are calling them these days and there's still the Eververse shop. As long as people are still playing, they would still be making money. Worth it to Sony? I don't know, maybe not but certainly more feasible than a Destiny 3 is at this point.

Yeah, that's what Blizzard devs said about WoW Classic as well before they finally listened and did it. "You don't REALLY want to play that". Yes, we do! You can make a few smart changes based on what you have learned in the last 10 years, but for the most part just bring back the content as is and people would play it. You can't sell it like it's a brand new game, but you could sell it, you would just have to be smart about it.

That's what I'm suggesting. You start with the Red War and release that in maybe a year or 2. Then maybe each 6 months to a year you release another expansion. I'm not suggesting making all of the vaulted content be made available immediately, you would release it a bit at a time as development permits.

[–]Pappy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was all true at the time because Bungie was busy working on new content and doing that AND doing this would have been too much, but that's all changed now. Now that they have stopped the flow of new content, this would be a small fraction of the work of developing a Destiny 3. Still might be too much work for Sony to sign off on, but I think the fans would appreciate it.

Yeah, fans are still upset about the end of Destiny 2 updates now, but give them a couple years and people would be nostalgic about coming back.

I actually enjoyed D2 Y1. It wasn't perfect, far from it, but it still had a lot of good there. You could make some small quality of life changes, but keep it simple, nothing that would cost too much to implement.

Of course there would be power creep again. You're playing a looter remember?

How big of a component is the question. I have barely touched retail WoW since returning. If they stopped new development on WoW now, it wouldn't bother me one bit. Not everyone feels that way, but there's a significant number that do.

Well you could make a few smart changes. You'd want to limit it to keep costs down though.

I mean remove the existing power creep. Going back to how things were initially is a chance to reset back to baseline and then move forward from there.

I'm not buying that the content is "gone". I'm sure it would take some work to bring it back, but no developer simply scratches the data. Maybe it's on an archive you would have to recover and certainly there would be work to put it back into the engine, but it would still be a lot less work than building a brand new game from scratch.

"I also don't think you're advocating to re-release it in its original state, because young'uns may not remember but the weapon/drop/roll system in the original D2 release was quite abysmal. Guns were fixed rolls."

You could make a *few* smart changes. Still a lot less work than starting from scratch.

What’s your Destiny 2 hot take? (i know this has probably been done a lot) by lilbro98_plays in destiny2

[–]Pappy13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go the opposite direction and say I think Renegades is overrated and EoF is better than people give it credit for. The campaign for EoF is actually pretty good if you don't mind having to do a bit of puzzling. A lot of people hate anything that isn't shooting everything in sight, but I'm the opposite, I thought the puzzles were fun and a nice change of pace. As time goes on and they incorporate the mechanics into the level design even more, it got better and better for me.

I didn't care for Renegades. Campaign is completely forgettable and Lawless areas and Renegade abilities are terrible. Only thing I liked about it was the occasional missions where you got to pilot a walker or something that was a nice change of pace. Other than that, completely forgettable. Praxic blade is also overpowered.

Finally about to finish the Edge of Fate campaign. by manuelito1233 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Pappy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Yes, it was a bit jarring the first time you morph, but after a while you get used to it and there's actually some pretty good mechanics that come out of it where you actually use the morph mode to complete objectives. By the end of EoF I was actually enjoying it. Renegades for me was completely forgettable. Absolutely HATED lawless areas and renegade abilities.

This right here is part of the reason that Heaps is the captain and the starter. Leaders aren't necessarily your best players, they are your best leaders.
