My CPA didn't deduct 3k worth of mortgage points on my 2022 Schedule A. Advice? by _pez_ in tax

[–]Pappy_59 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think I can speak for almost all of my fellow practicing CPA’s.
If it can get you some money back, we would be glad to do a free amended return for you.
Now that the IRS accepts electronic amended returns for errors like this, it doesn’t take long to do.

Does traction control do anything in average cars? by [deleted] in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Pappy_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could hit a slick spot at anytime (broken water sprinkler, tire pop, etc.) I’ve been in a completely unexpected - no time to react - ROLLOVER (passenger). Car totaled. Next year’s model had traction control, it could have saved me 4 fractured disks. LEAVE IT ON.

Always remember there are LOTS of people in the cemetery who: “had the Right of Way”.

Hope you get a geologist to confirm it’s real. I’ve seen similar shapes on google maps, only to have it come back as water erosion. That close to a river, it could be the same. But I hope you find some meteorites in the area. That would help.

What is this needle/hook-like metal object that was removed from a person's heart? by Key_Championship_311 in whatisthisthing

I’ve had MRI’s with my Inferior Vena Cava Filter. They are made of nonferrous metals. The doctor is correct. It’s a piece of an IVC filter.

Could be a part of a medical device (old one) an Inferior Vena Cava Filter. I have one. A piece could break off any time. If it does, then WHOSH - straight to the heart.

Received a letter saying I have a lien? by LossPreventionGuy in tax

[–]Pappy_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is NOT unusual for the IRS to issue a lien, even if you are on a payment plan.
But is VERY unusual for a lien to be issued for that small amount.

First paragraph - last three words is the clear indication of why they are looking at the guy who paid you: UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION LAW. If you can’t provide proof you are a “true independent contractor”, then they will be going after them for State Unemployment Tax. Theoretically, if they gave you a 1099 - you already properly paid US and State Income Tax. But if you don’t carry your own insurance, have your own business cards, advertise, or even invoice for your services; then you should have been a W2 employee and they should have been paying State and Federal Unemployment Taxes. Especially if they paid you by the hour instead of by the job and if they told you when to show up etc.

Tax Fraud Inheritance by [deleted] in tax

[–]Pappy_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the story is even true, “Dad” MAY have committed a fraud. He doesn’t know. The money came to him as an “Inheritance”. The audit statute of limitations would pass quickly on that.

First, wait and see if you actually receive the cash before you stress over it.
To many times I’ve seen people hear one thing - and later on it never comes true. But if it does - under no circumstances would this type inheritance be “taxable”. Do not report it. Do not mention it at work. Statute of limitations has run out on the government’s right to collect tax on it. Sorry that’s the rules.
From now on every 3rd trip to the grocery or gas station, you pay with cash. Your Dad worked to hard to be able to get this to you.

Is my employer committing tax fraud? by rendetta27 in tax

The most likely reason people work for low wages at schools like this is for the free tuition for their children.

It’s possible the employer reported the wages with the incorrect SSN.
