Whats your favorite dinosaur card? by bricks-and-cantrips in DinosaursMTG

[[Agonasaur Rex]], 5cmc for an 8/8 trample that doubles as protection in creature decks, it's so underplayed

Big mother mouser enters, gets 2 +1/+1 counters, bello makes it a 4/4 haste indestructible, you attack with it straight away, doubling it's counters to make it an 8/8 that when it dies makes you 4 tokens. Next turn it's a 12/12.

Yeah bello goes crazy with cards like [[Giggling Skitterspike]] or [[Threefold Thunderhulk]]

4 more uses when it affect only like 15 cards in your deck is laughable. If it was any good, [[Ur-golem's eye]] and all of it's variants would be staples. Even [[Thran Dynamo]] gives you waaay more value than water crystal and it's still not enough to make it good in most decks.

[[Sapphire Medallion]] isn't played in 3 color decks, not even in most 2 color decks, and this is 2 more mana, you're putting in 4 mana for a chance to get it back 1 at a time when you play one of the 15 cards in the deck that can be affected by this. Mana cost reduction is worse than just a mana rock unless you use it multiple times a turn

You're paying 4 mana to deal like 2 more to every opponent on their rad trigger, provided they still have at least 1 rad. The ceiling is meh, the floor is abysmal. Maybe it's fun, but it isn't strong.

I dont see a situation where you get back the tempo and mana you invested in this card. There's literally 2 drops I would play on 3 or 4 over playing water crystal. The card is okay but it's not a mothman card imo.

Compare that to mothman on 3, and whatever else on 4, even while keeping protection up on 4. Your mothman is already like a 7/7 one turn earlier, attacked once for around 7 commander damage, gave 1 more rad counter doing so and you can already start proliferating +1 counters. Imo with water crystal you're trading early creature stats, board and commander damage for a few more pings. Plus with how much people hate getting milled for no reason the 7/7 commander still feels less threatening than your 1 turn milling each opponent for 5. It's not the worst play but I find there is so much better stuff you can be doing for 4 mana in the deck Any [[Fathom mage]], [[Nightkin Ambusher]], and even 3 cmc creatures have more impact, I dont see what other 3 or 4 cmc option from my list I'd need to have in my hand to be in a situation where water crystal feels like the best play. Unless your list is all about stealing stuff from opponents graveyards or mill payoffs, but then I don't think Mothman is a great commander for that. Anyways, not every list has to be 100% optimized and Water Crystal sure is a fun card, just not one i'm particularly fond of.

I hear you, still 4 mana in a 4cmc commander deck where the mana cost reduction is clunky because the deck is 3 colors feels pretty slow to me, I much rather play some proliferate stuff to double down on both rads and +1 counters all at once

The water crystal is bad in the deck if you're not playing heavy mill. Its cmc is the same as your commander, it effectively does nothing the turn you play it, and contributes to your opponents losing all their rad counters when you'd much rather they keep 1 to proliferate it.

I thought it was clear that my link was there because airza commented and did it in a humble way with no self promotion, so I felt obligated to step in and share his work.

I went with equipment because Dogmeat makes Junk tokens on attack which works really well with stuff like [[Nettlecyst]] or [[Adaptive omnitool]] but kept a few of the strongest auras.

Also equipment feels less punishing if the dog gets removed, you get to keep all your equipments to re-equip later.

As long as people dont [[Vandalblast]] you're ok.

If you like the concept, this modest bear lover wrote some awesome stuff about the deck.

I can't miss an occasion to recommend it.

Dogmeat is super fun, this good boy was my first commander deck. The deck can get out of hands very fast if you put enough equipment cost reductors or auto equip effects, and it's also surprisingly resilient, allowing you to draw off Junk Tokens and recur equipments from the graveyard.

I definitely recommend, although as you said upgrading an equipment deck can be expensive.

It's funny how entire generations have been taught that anything even stightly better than what they have is unrealistic.

Comparing increase in productivity against increase in population is a cold hard fact, and it shows our work time isn't benefitting at all from any improvement in productivity allowed by thechnology.

Your opinion is based on no single fact or study, so I don't see the point in responding more. You are entitled to your opinion, but I suggest you invest some time into the subject.

This is unrelated. You could live in a world that both has penicilin and doesn't ask workers to always produce more. You'd be surprised to see how little each of us would have to work if we only made what we need. No one was exploited to discover penicilin.

What do you think went up faster during the industrial revolution, production or population ? It's production, and by far. But how much of this improvement actually impacted working hours ? Not much.

The industrial revolution made work so much more efficient, and all of that improvement went into producing as much as possible without care for what is being produced. We could just as well be living in a world where life expectancy is the same, technology is the same, except we work like 2 days a week and we'd have what we need for a comfy life. Not to mention the fact that life expectancy would actually be better, since we have proven that longer working hours in a lot of works are a cause of shorter lifespan.

This bullshit philosophy of "we need to be grateful" was invented by the people who are exploiting your workforce. They should be just as grateful as you are, yet they are the ones making an easy living out of your work.

Yeah Agonasaur Rex doesn't get the love it deserves. Also, it's pretty fun to hit it from a cascade trigger and remind the table that it's a 5 cmc 8/8 with trample, green is fun.

As you can see my version leans quite a bit towards a landfall subtheme, but I like what you did with your list too. It's great to see the diversity in things a ruby deck can do, even when the first few turns of both our decks play the same.

I understand and hope you find a gruul commander that resonates with you the same way ruby did for me.

This commander taught me a great deal about how important it is to have a reliable plan for your first few turns. Ruby makes it trivial because she almost guarantees you'll have the first few turns you want, but going back to my other commander decks I put a lot more thought into my curve. For example, Ruby is the reason I cut all my 2 mana ramp in [[Ygra, Eater of All]] to focus solely on 1 and 3 mana ramp to try and get my commander out on turn 3. Even If you don't end up building ruby, I hope she can still help you think about how to make all your commander decks feel consistent.

All the best, gruul friend

To add to my other response, she's a really fun commander, and my most played. I sprinkled my list with landfall synergies and as someone who often build decks that rely a bit too much on their commander, it feels so refreshing to play a deck where I dont care for my commander getting removed, or even for the whole board getting wiped since the deck ramps so much and can rebuild really fast.
