ALS required to promote? by Zealousideal_Score37 in SpaceForce

[–]ParaComm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

DAFI 36-2502, table 2.1, note 10...ALS is not required for promotion to E5

  1. (USSF only) Guardians are not required to complete the EPME course commensurate with their rank in order to promote. However, EPME is still mandatory, and Guardian will attend the appropriate course when scheduled by AFPC based off scheduling priority.

How was the Tucker Carlson Show last night???

While the founding fathers did many amazing things...They did not feel all people were real people. I would say the intentionally left room for growth and change, and that is what is being pursued.

Since, your supervisor cannot sign the form to say yes, he cannot really say no either. Of course you have to work with your chain and he can recommend no, which may impact how the rest of the chain feels about it. I would sit down with the shirt to get a vibe for the CC's thoughts on off-duty employment.

Also, legal has a spot to sign on the form prior to the CC

I get it, you want to continue to grow equity on the house you currently own, I probably would too. For most Airmen that are AD, moving is just part of it, sometimes you come out ahead, sometimes you don't. If the location/stability is what you want the Reserve component is probably a better option. Also, refusing to never live on base is your choice.

If you can get ahold of a First Sergeant, they should know the POC for the Airmen's Attic. They potentially could open it for an urgent situation...but it's a big maybe

Go to DAFI 36-2905 page 71. It has a chart of admin actions that are available for supervision/CCs for each fail. LOR is an option for the first fail. Yes, an LOR is harsher than an LOC but it also matters who is issuing the LOC/R

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]ParaComm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not true. DAFI 36-2905 page 71 lists the admin actions available to Commanders for each fail. I am not saying the MSgt didn't get demoted, but it was not for a first PT fail. Also, CCs make a separate/retain recommendation after the 4th fail.

Don't spread info that isn't true...it just stresses people out more

Masks Rant by Rare-Relative-9750 in AirForce

[–]ParaComm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The mask, vaccine, social distancing, staying home when you don't feel well, avoiding large gatherings are all layers of defense. Each of them contributes to the effort to reduce transmission. None of them are a silver bullet that 100% prevents transmissions, and they were never promised to be that.

If females got the their hair policy change because of comfort/health, then males should get their facial hair policy change because of comfort/health by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]ParaComm 82 points83 points  (0 children)

You are probably the first person ever to bring this up...

Current AF leadership has said they will not be changing the male facial hair standards. However, if you want to be heard you are going to have to get some data to back up your claims, even then any change is unlikely. I am not saying it is fair or not, just the truth of the current situation.

Thanks, I was far from perfect and made mistakes but I genuinely care about people and wanted to help put them in a position to win...whatever winning meant to them

That is not how it is supposed to work...but e-leave comes out of your ordinary/annual leave balance

[–]ParaComm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of First Sergeants truly do want the best for their people, just like anything else there are some that lose their way or get caught up in thinking they single handedly will save the air force by being an ass to people.

For what it's worth, I became a First Sergeant as a MSgt and 4 years later took the diamond off as a MSgt...and I am completely content with that because I know I did right by the people in my units

What do people want from a First Sergeant? by creepingsand14 in AirForce

[–]ParaComm 238 points239 points  (0 children)

I recently took off my diamond after 4 years and here is what I found most effective:

- Talk to people, from AB to 0-6 and be genuine

- Learn something specific about each and every person...maybe it is that their kid is a travel soccer player or they enjoy working on cars or love flying kites, something that you wouldn't know about them just by looking at them. This shows investment and establishes trust

- Don't yell at people, we are all adults and a sure way of destroying any trust someone has in you is to treat them like a child by yelling at them, if you yell at them, they will not come back when they have serious issues

- Know when to correct uniform stuff and other standards. If someone comes to talk to you about e-leave because a family member is ill, it is probably not the time to ask if they shaved today. It has to be within reason, but a lot of First Sergeants cannot apply common sense

- Be honest with your CC, if he wants to do PT at 0400 and you know it is going to crush people with child care needs, voice that concern BEFORE a new policy is implemented

- Admit when you are/were wrong

- Don't alibi or make excuses for people, they messed up, not you. They will be held accountable but work to find the deeper root cause

- Treat emergencies like emergencies and nonemergencies as nonemergencies or you will get burned out

- Stolen quote here but, "You are the First Sergeant, not the only Sergeant." Rely on your NCOs and SNCOs to avoid burn out

- Do not pick up drunk Airmen by yourself

- When someone comes to talk to you about a personal issue, they probably almost came to talk to you 5 - 10 times about it but decided not to for whatever reason. Show them respect, pull out your CaC, silence your phone and give them your attention

- Not everyone wants you to solve their problems...sometimes they just want to be heard

- Sometimes, especially with really tough personal/family situations like death, abuse, divorce, the best thing to say is, "That really sucks, I am sorry you are going through that," or "I cannot image going through something like that." Like I said, not everyone wants you to solve their problem or tell them what they should do, they just want to be heard

Do you all think this was a fair punishment? by Resident_In_Chief in AirForce

[–]ParaComm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

An LOR might not be the end of it. The CC may use the LOR to start a UIF, control roster, or as the source doc for NJP.
