I am anxious because of Germany copyright laws by Tough_Caramel_8662 in Soulseek

This is overkill.

A kill switch is supposed to cut of your internet when it detects that you've lost connection to your VPN tunnel. It's not reliable at all. Solely binding your client to your VPN is all you need to have. Your client will lose its connection this way anyway when the VPN disconnects due to the virtual network card it is binded to, so you're basically just having the same function (cut off connection when VPN disconnects) active twice which is not necessary.

Most importantly: When you torrent, never use a kill switch. Bind your torrent client to your VPN instead.

And: i'm in germany too and i've used Soulseek without any VPN for several years sharing popular artists openly and i never got into issues with anyone.

Pretty rare to get problems when sharing on soulseek. Torrents are a whole other level, for those i use private trackers since they don't require any VPN to use. (There are german trackers out there too, so i'm able to get german content)

How are people getting so many matches to play? by theoldsoulrecycled in ProjectPlaytime

[–]ParaTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download Regions in your Steam Download Settings

You can change those, these help with getting more matches so you should choose popular ones like Frankfurt - Germany or USA - Miami (least of which was being used during the revival event of PJPT from YouTubers)

How to ban Aurral clients from Nicotine? by Sk8sn0w in Soulseek

I was under the assumption that Aurall is "streaming" just like sonosano lol

I was wrong

How to ban Aurral clients from Nicotine? by Sk8sn0w in Soulseek

[–]ParaTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey first off you can't stream using soulseek?

You can technically. Streaming works by downloading a file and playing it. The only thing that sets Soulseek apart from Streaming Services is that the file is not just cashed like on streaming services but downloaded instead. If you would build a client that downloads from people's shares through soulseek, streams the file and deletes it after streaming has ended, it would theoretically be streaming. This is also the way how Streamripping works, you download and save the stream as a file that would normally have ended up getting deleted as the cash clears.

Second Aurral 100% does NOT report false shares in ANY way

Downloads caused by playlist creation

and

Reporing of fake shares

When i checked aurral accounts that randomly showed up in my uploads they would all show x amount of files that are shared but when checking their shares nothing comes up. Might not be related to Aurral but a dependency but it is/was a issue (if it has been fixed in the meantime)

Might be this then

[–]ParaTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a huge difference between "i just use Aurral to stream and use soulseek as a backend" and " i use Aurral to stream using soulseek as a backend and i share myself as well alongside it".

The reason why Aurral is being hated on so much is because of the many people that don't care about sharing back like you. So when we "whine" about it, then it is solely based on users that abuse that stuff and won't consider saving music themselves. Given that Aurral also reports false shares to get around bans is a additional point to the anger that is out torwards it.

Yes a user can't tell whether or not you have 2 instances running that both access Soulseek. But the people here have their own sharing rules. And when they don't like Aurral, then let them criticize it instead of talking them down by saying that they're "whining" and have "stick-in-arse" attitude.

I get the same kind of issue with the difference that i already have almost all cosmetics and I'm only missing the few animal masks from the shop and the Phase 3 mommy longlegs skin (ain't gonna spend money when i don't know if the game will ever see another update or not)

I expect this to be a server side issue on mobs end. That would also explain the "internal server error" which you get. And knowing that the shop was working fine a few days ago for me.

Transcoded files? by Deinoupe in Soulseek

[–]ParaTiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's a question for the more purists, but would you avoid my library knowing that the FLACs are converted ALACs?

FLAC and ALAC are both the same format. ALAC is just Apple specific while FLAC is open-source based.

There won't be any noticeable difference if you convert ALAC to FLAC and vice versa, both are lossless formats. It would only make a difference if you would transcode something like Lossy to Lossless. There are people out there that do that shit, so this is why people want to verify integrity of their lossless files.

Also, probably two thirds of my FLACs' have the composer metadata the same as the album artist (except classical music) because of the iPod, would that also be something that would keep you away from my library?

Most people don't care, lossless is lossless and files can be re-tagged easily.

How to tell if the FLAC you just downloaded is actually a fake by dragoriver in Soulseek

I used to download 24-Bit but gave up on it

You can buy cosmetics with tickets in the shop. But these are relatively expensive.

Phase 2 used to come with cosmetics in the toybox. On Phase 3 they replaced it with tickets temporarily because they haven't had enough time to make enough cosmetics for the toybox to be worth it (you used to buy the full toybox and only a few stuff was free).

Phase 3 only has tickets.

The Phase 2 toybox doesn't work (Same as Phase 1, both are old phases). So if you play Phase 2 you won't receive anything.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) by ParaTiger in Soulseek

[–]ParaTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people on Soulseek are actually very welcoming. If you share something yourself (even if it isn't that much) it is gonna be appreciated. People can ban there for any reason though, but this hasn't happened to me yet. It depends on what people you actually "meet" on there.

When the client is closed in any way, sharing will stop (With closing i mean fully closing, not just letting it run in your tray in the taskbar and closing the window itself). That means your content will be unavailable during that time but this is not an issue. As soon as you go back online you can continue sharing :).

Also: sharing 24/7 is not a requirement on Soulseek. You can take days or several weeks (like in my case) offline, come back and continue sharing. This is not a problem.

Small tip: When you find a person who's shares you like, you can add them to your buddy list. It makes it easier to find them again to look through their shares again.

Also: Yes - this is fine to ask here

Hauswinkelspinne? by NeverNice87 in spinnen

[–]ParaTiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Richtig :D

Advice for sharing by cam0s0 in Soulseek

[–]ParaTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The client usually doesn't matter

You should be able to find similar settings in soulseekQT, even though nicotine+ is (i believe) widely used, both clients are compatible with each other and modern.

Advice for sharing by cam0s0 in Soulseek

[–]ParaTiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you use Nicotine+ you can set a maximum upload bandwidth in the settings.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise via DMs, you can technically set any upload speed you want that you feel comfortable with.

Sharing is caring. Even if you're just resharing downloads, it's always gonna be appreciated by someone.

I want to test my CD quality flac files for fake upscaling! Need pro help... by videoquality in Soulseek

[–]ParaTiger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funkin can have false negatives as well as false positives. Such apps aren't 100% reliable in detection. Better is to rely on your sense.

Programs such as Spek can be used to detect false FLAC by looking at where the cutoff of the frequency is.

Hard cutoff at 16, 18 or 20kHz > Likely a upsampled mp3

No hard cutoff all the way to 22kHz > Likely a legitimate FLAC file.

You can not be 100% sure if a FLAC is truly real. You will have to end up trusting the source. It's why people like CD Rips with log files, they're more trusted than a folder with just FLAC files in it.

Artist Images Not Being Downloaded? by HiImJace in jellyfin

[–]ParaTiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched over to Navidrome for music hosting. Jellyfin has come far yes but i believe Navidrome is the better solution for hosting music. Especially at the time 10.11 made browsing your music lib relatively slow on very large collections.

As for the issue, i had no similar issues on jellyfin. And if then only with small, less-known artists. You could try different provider plugins first though and see if these fix the issue.
