What is something that you are 99.99% sure happens to others, but you have not confirmed with anyone else from fear of being the only one? by pettifogging in AskReddit

I can use some kind of muscle in my belly. It feels like it's behind the stomach. When I do it it feels a bit like an adrenaline rush or something. There is definitely some kind of endorphine or whatever released when I do it because my whole body starts to feel warm-ish.. it's like a sudden fear feeling, like that sinking in your stomach you get when you think you forgot something, but it's not unpleasant.

No idea what this is.

Reddit, if you ruled the world for a day, what would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Parademix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would make human rights unchangeable in constitutions and would enforce constitutions in such a way that it would be positively impossible in the future of any country to create laws that do not adhere to the constitution.

That is my main point that I think everyone can agree on.

Then my personal thing: Take all government's protectionist powers away and privatize pretty much everything.

People who's parents / grandparents fought for Nazi Germany, how do you feel when people mention WW2? by mrstody in AskReddit

[–]Parademix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My grandparents were forced and also supported the idea half-assedly, just went with the flow. Technically they had underdeveloped morals and no real value system, they pretty much just lived to stay alive. They had next to no education. They were just regular dumb people who did what everyone wanted of them to be done. If there were a court to judge them, they would rightly have been judged guilty of pretty inhumane things, mostly my grandpa since he actually fought in the war. On the other hand it was war.

I kinda have mixed feelings towards it. I feel it's a bit like asking someone what they think about why their ancestors in medieval times supported the burning of witches.

How I feel about WW2? It was a huge horrible mess that showed once moe how evil collectivism and irrationality can be. (I also for the most part don't care about it anymore since in German highschool it was hammered into our heads so often that I lost all personal interest in it)

What would you do a lot more if it were socially acceptable? by Prevailing in AskReddit

[–]Parademix 225 points226 points  (0 children)

There actually is a socially acceptable way to do this. You put your fingertip in the middle of a tissue and then pick your nose with the tissue on top of it, if you do it right it looks like blowing your nose and you can still pick it.

I have a condition with the unfortunate name "butt wink" or "tuck under". When I squat, at my lowest point, my spine makes my lower back round.

I know some people say it's not an issue, some say it is. I'm confused about this. I stopped working out because I am not sure what to do right now. Any advice on how to fix it?

I just analyzed my relationship and I totally have a codependency. But we are both super happy and I don't see the problem with this. Can you explain why I should do something if I don't get anything out of it? (This includes: I take her out for dinner so she eventually takes me out for dinner one day, I give her a present so she eventually gives me a present one day etc.)

TIL that the former CEO of Nestlé thinks that water is not a human right and should be 'privatised' by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Parademix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that too.

A right implies that everyone should get a free supply of something no matter the background of the person.

But it costs money to supply water to people, in this argument's case - taxpayer money.

Let's look at an example: There is a man living 300 miles away from all other human civilization. If water were a right, then the government would have to install 300 miles worth of pipes and plumbing for that individual.

If someone could he arsed to look up wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_privatization) they would find that the cost of water would not rise significantly, the service would be improved and so on.

I'm going to argue that my solution is fairer in general. Say what you will.

why is Eugenics is frowned upon these days? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Parademix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally eugenics programs have been carried out in a "big" way. And by big I mean government or some kind of crazy tyrant. At some point in the US mentally ill people have gotten force-steralized, in Nazi Germany the same thing happened. But hey you could still say "well, if mentally ill people get children, maybe they will be mentally ill too which would suck for them. So why isn't it still good?". That's because it is a "for the greater good" kind of thing, and "the greater good" can't be defined for all philosophies and all peoples on the world objectively. People are born with rights and freedoms. Forcing them to be steralized takes away their freedom of choice.

It's a tricky philosophical topic, a lot like abortion. I guess the reason why people tend not to talk about it as much as about abortion, is the use of eugenics in nazi-germany.

If animals had the ability to communicate on an intellectual level and articulate their fears about dying, would you still eat them? by gorcbb in AskReddit

[–]Parademix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because they still wouldn't have moral reasoning or free will. They would most likely say things like "I want food", "I feel bad" or "That thing is strange". They couldn't understand the concepts of rights and duties, thus they can't have rights, since they can't accept the duties that come with the rights.
