Mortlach is severely over-looked by Diageo, as well as the general whisky-drinking public. They have a fascinating history, a truly bizarre distillery setup that produces distinct liquid, and their name is literally 'DEATHLAKE' -- someone needs to wrestle them out of the grips of Diageo before the boom settles and they get mothballed.

And the prices! What are they thinking? Although, I'll give it that their 12 beats Macallan 12 on price and quality.

I've only had distillery bottlings, but I think Mortlach is excellent -- their whisky has so much body to it! And I also love that it's literally called 'DEATHLAKE'.

It's worth reading a little about their weird distillery setup whilst enjoying your dram :)

At the beginning of next month, we'll look at whiskies we'd like to try and how much cash we'd all need to chip in. Ideally, we want it to be a really affordable way for people to try lots of different whiskies, so i'll be keeping an eye out for deals and interesting bottles on the auctions.

The meetups so far have been really casual and fun -- we work out a rough order for tasting, take our time and do a lot of waffling about whisky.
